Union fans on Twitter were all gung ho when it was league players to be signedBang on ! The AFL and Union trolls have been triggered big time. They were hoping R360 would kill off the NRL
Some Union comments are so delusional they thought R360 would sign Haas, Cleary and Walsh and they would all be playing for the Wallabies in the World Cup.
I’d suggest nearly every rl fan of the era thought that union banning players that even trialled for a league team was draconian and grossly unfair. Fans in here have mentioned it over and over again, along with Vichy, whenever they want to stick the knife in to unions morality.Who depised it?

HypocriteAnswer: $$$. Simple as that. Putting the threat out there will hopefully scare off any potential defectors and it would've done it's job.
Answer: Yes it was unfair, but 2025 is a much different time to 1995 and before. If you are holding the same views from that period to now, then NRL advising bans to those who will damage the sport, should be the least of your problems
I don't think you know what that word means. I can live with my viewpoint though. You're a moron, which obviously you're comfortable being as well.Hypocrite
The only reason R360 is getting so much air time in the media in Australia is because it’s leverage for players’ agents to increase their players’ next contract in the NRL. The R360 would only exist for the same reasons as the IPL ie gambling and money laundering. They probably have - forget the legalities, this is all about the NRL and clubs showing their teeth.
They’re making a statement that if you wanna take the gamble and go to R360 (using all the years of NRL development, and the profile you’ve now got because of the NRL), don’t think you can just waltz back into the NRL if it all goes wrong.
It’s all about making R360 seem like too big of a gamble to take.
- R360 feels like a risk because it sounds too good to be true from a financial perspective (gazillions in salary and zero tax).
- R360 already feels like a risk that you might go, and then not actually get paid because the money isn’t really there (remember Toronto Wolfpack)
- R360 already feels like a risk because it’s shitty rugby union, a shit concept of make believe teams, and an even shitter concept of expecting people to sit and watch 4 games of shitty boring Union back to back
- R360 already feels like a risk, because even if it makes it off the ground, its likely to fail in a year or two due to its shittyness as a concept….
And now, even if you deem all of the above still a risk worth taking - the NRL and clubs are showing the intent of slamming the door shut on coming back.
This deterrent will work.
People who went over to League did so to get paid, not paid way more than what is already way more than an average person.I’d suggest nearly every rl fan of the era thought that union banning players that even trialled for a league team was draconian and grossly unfair. PVL is sending a firm message that the players who are not loyal to the game are going to be treated harshly if they want to come back. I like that.I’d suggest nearly every rl fan of the era thought that union banning players that even trialled for a league team was draconian and grossly unfair. Exactly, IPL works because there's 1.5 billion people in India that love Cricket like religion.IPL level interest and success must be the ideal outcome, the ceiling, for R360. However, unless I am mistaken IPL success is purely based on Indians following it. Nobody else follows it even though all the best players in the world are involved. I think there will be a lot less interest in R360 than there is even for Super rugby. Like if Fox buys the rights in Australia they would have to know they are not going to sell any subscriptions and especially if it is in October, November the ratings would be terrible as people are over football by then.

Maybe we need to look at why players are leaving
That’s a good pointBut that was all about the amateur vs professional players. Union liked to pretend players played the game for the love of it. We all knew guys were getting paid under the table, which is why players ended up in France and came back wealthier.
Caused if you played League aas it was professional you couldn't go back to Union and an amateur status, like many sports with similar rules. It's why it all changed when Union went officially professional. They then started targetting some league players.
Are you from that era?I’d suggest nearly every rl fan of the era thought that union banning players that even trialled for a league team was draconian and grossly unfair. We still attract Union talent, just at a younger age before they're known.I was and it only benefited Rugby League, plenty of Union players came across, especially in England which help boost there league. It's one of those things that is missing now. We used to be able to attract the best Union players for a go and to be paid above board.
I wouldn't be against the NRL saying you can recruit 1 capped union player outside the cap and 1 uncapped but played top grade player. I figure NRL clubs would do there due dilligance and get some great backs and the odd forward to supplement there teams. Don't count those player under the top 30 cap either. Might even get some union players for the old 10 game stints going into the finals.

The next TV deal and added teams will certainly boost the purchasing of Union players.
