Great idea! Create an environment where direct foreign investment into PNG is unatttactive, because it makes you feel uncomfortable that some people are living better than others. That will surely help grow the economy in the future. The amount of jobs this investment will create will help a lot more people than those just in the team.

If you actually cared about the people of PNG, you would be cheering on every bit of direct foreign investment. Thats how you're eventually going to be able to pull people out of poverty.

2 or 3 sites they are looking at currently for the team.

Airways Hotel and residences, right near the Airport, is firming as the preferred option. Aparently they own their own Island. Couldn't find any information on it, but thinking it could be Loloata Island Resort (Image below).

At the Airways Hotel, they are looking at building a seperate wing of 80 apartments for players, family and staff - work to get started in the new year (obviously if it gets chosen) - Own schooling system also to be provided.

One other option being explored is the Marriott Executive Apartments in the CBD of Port Moresby.

The Edge Apartments at the Habour City Waterfront is the other location that I'd be looking at and hopefully they also put in a bid for this.

It also has everything that the Airways offers and I believe there is also work starting soon on additional apartments and amenities.

Airways as the name suggests is right next to Jackson's International Airport. The noise of planes landing and taking off every 30-40 minutes might not be for everyone.

Pretty sure players won't leave compound. Ask local communities in mining about FIFO workers.

Yeh being on the water should be a way better option than out in the sticks near the airport

During recent Senate Estimates hearings, NSW Senator Jess Collins questioned why this investment is so league-focused and suggested that rugby union deserves similar support:

A quick scroll through her social media shows she’s a big union advocate – sharing Wallaroos content, being hosted by Phil Waugh at rugby union events, and amplifying posts from Jilly Collins, General Manager of Women’s Rugby at Rugby Australia. Is there a family link between Jess and Jilly? Could just be shared passion but looks iffy.

Rugby union leaders are nervous and are clearly throwing their weight around behind closed doors on this.
Wiki bio says born in New Zealand.
Say no more!

And? People in the west generally live far better lives than most of the world and in large part that has been built off the back of exploitation.

I don’t see how this is any different to the millions of people who travel to countries and stay in luxury whilst huge portions of the population live in poverty. Travelling to Bali to stay in a resort is like a national pastime here in Australia.

There will still be money flowing into PNG as a result of this team existing. Also let’s not forget that this team will likely be very reliant on players from PNG.

Aren’t the Australian government already giving money to union to support them in the pacific?

Also the answer to her question is obvious, because rugby league is actually popular in PNG.

You have no problem with inequality. Got it.

You have to have the club/players be big / radical campaigners for the PNG people.
That will help the perception there.
I'm predicting that there is an almost certainty that at least some of the 30 man squad are PNG locals, we draft these guys into Australian Q cup teams all the time and they're in the top 30 of existing NRL teams.
So it won't be just Aussies and Kiwis ect in this village or Island, it'll be Papua New Guineans too.

There will be guys playing in the NRL, staying in 4 star accommodation in there country that came from their village...

That'll be pretty cool.
