Silly Season 2025/26

Yea that seems a little desperate from Parra...

But gees that's a spectacularly good score for the Broncs if that all lands.

No idea how they're making the cap work, but with Pezet, Mam, and Walsh... all 22-23 yr olds... that's a ridiculous spine. For the next decade.
The cap only works if everyone is given an independent market value, Bronco's, Storm, Roosters etc pay less for same player than Warriors, Tigers who have to pay overs.

Pezet activates release from the Storm, 2026 at Parra then a multi year deal at the Broncos from 2027 onwards if reports are correct

Not really sure why Parra would bother with that
I thought broncos had a wonder kid in the juniors earmarked for the #7 role already? Coby Black. Interesting moves. Seems like its all a bit too cute.

Yeah I see your point, and certainly that would be the case for us because we have to pay the 'move to NZ' tax on players...which, as Matua would tell us, is why we should look to promote from this side first and to develop the players we need.

But the Tigers having to pay overs is completely on them. On the same side of town, the Panthers don't, because they're a world class outfit. The Tigers do, because they're a rabble.

Yea man, 100% agree. Titans in a similar boat too.

There's probably a flip side for us too though right - I've got no evidence to support this, but surely at some stage, we've been able to keep a locally raised player for less (or longer) than might normally have been the case, just because they didnt want to move overseas.

Hamish-Fidow officially declares himself for Samoa next season

Bula situation at the Tigers getting untidy, I’ll back them if they just cut ties and get another Moses headache out of the club. Apparently wants more than what they are offering, and now an added bit to it as they have cut his wife from their women’s squad so he is unhappy

Moses and Gus probably already have something in the works

Look forward to another 'I've never met Jahream Bula', nek minnit 3 year deal situation from Gus. Which would make sense, they've made it clear they don't really rate Tracey that highly

The Tigers are going to have to get a lot smarter about the players they have on their roster, if they want to raise the stakes on professionalism and consistency. No doubt there's some talent there but they've got way too many guys that are more likely to be making Tik Toks than writing in their journals.

What is our collective answer to why Parra would be interested? I can't really work it out. Joash Papali'i has played 13 games this year and is developing, they have the kid who won SG Ball POTY this year, only thing I can think of is that Ryles sees Moses/Pezet as one that can get them back to the finals and get that feeling back. Still feels tenuous when it holds someone else back for 12 months.

Yea been thinking about this since the news broke. Seemed a very odd call at face value.

But then I read something about Coby Black, the young Brisbane lad who's considered a gun, was supposed to be Reyno's successor, and now had the rug pulled out from under him.

Speculation was maybe Black wasnt developing as quickly or as well as the Broncs had envisioned.

Maybe its similar story for Parra - maybe they're not seeing (yet) what they hoped for from Papali'i or the the other young fella.

Bringing in Pezet, who's obviously first grade ready, could be just Ryles buying more time. To either get the other lads up to speed, or find another long term option. And if they get a few extra wins along the way, that's great too.

Yeah buying time is the only thing I can see from it. Someone will get a go for at least a few rounds while Moses is in Origin or injured, although if Papali'i has played 13 games, playing NSW Cup probably isn't going to do much for him in terms of development. But trying to find another long-term option could be it, maybe they are in the market for Metcalf in 27?

Yea true.. there's a few sniffing around Luke isnt there. If he has to leave, I hope for his sake its to Parra rather than the Drags. Way more upside joining Parra's spine of Moses, Iongi and Smith/Da Silva than Flanno's nepotistic circus.

On Papali'i - his first couple games were off the bench playing a bit of hooker, and he even started a few at fb when Iongi was out. I cant remember how he went there, but he seems to have some versatility so could still find a spot in first grade next year.

***Remember, I don't sell to you guys because I want to be able to post this stuff here without you thinking I'm trying to sell you something!

Anyway, my little spiel about Storm 2008 Away:

Screenshot-20251022-133823-1.jpg

What an entertaining finals series, and so long ago now. I think Melbourne played another team between losing to us and then beating Brisbane.

1 v 8! And we won!! It's still hard to believe. From memory Inglis potted a field-goal in the 69th minute, to go 15-14 ahead. I always thought that was too early? Then again, if they then scored a converted try then the game was pretty much over.

I never want Melbourne's Olympic Park demolished or even changed!

That's a bloody excellent point that I haven't considered before. So, the cap isn't a level playing field. The Roosters could get two players for the price of our one (or, in effect, two Sydney WAGS for the price of our one).

Sorry if I've missed context but you know this was literally demolished in 2012, right? I never knew that stadium (moved here in 2013) but it is now a training ground for the Collingwood AFL team, and AAMI is next door.

That sporting precinct, around this area, is nuts. It's just ridiculous how good it is. The G, AAMI Park, Rod Laver, I went to John Cain for the NBL last week, some of the Aussie Open tennis courts you can just walk onto any time of the day, Gosch's Paddock where the Storm and Victory sometimes train, honestly it's incredible.

No, you got the context right. I'm now saddened to hear about the demise of the old Olympic Park. One of those ramshackle memories now lost forever. Hopefully, the exact spot where Jarome passed to Manu is still 'standonable'. From memory we were running towards the northern end.

Gee, how sentimental of me!

So happy with this.

Said this elsewhere too but this current incarnation of the clubs administration is top notch. From pathways, to rookies, recruitment and all around management they are kicking goals. Enjoy it because we haven't had anything like this level of know-how or professionalism associated with the club ever. They just get shit done.

For all the plaudits that players get for improving skills and performance, Cam George should also get some. From where he started to where he is now, the guy has learnt from some serious mistakes and is probably now up there with the best Club CEO's. He's gone from NSW Cup to International Rep in my opinion (to use a player metaphor).
