lol what are the eels thinking

Great get for the broncos after all the qld juniors the storm have gotten

“North Queensland, Parramatta and Canberra were thought to be leading the race for his services but it appears as though the Broncos have come in with a late bid that has trumped them all.
As part of the deal, this masthead understands that Pezet is in talks over a move to the Eels for one season to play alongside Mitchell Moses ahead of a likely switch to the Broncos for the 2027 season, when Reynolds is expected to have retired.
The plan would be for Pezet to slide into the No.7 jersey and play alongside Ezra Mam in a spine that also features exciting fullback Reece Walsh.
Jonah Pezet.
Jonah Pezet.
if the Broncos can finalise a deal, it shapes as a huge coup for coach Michael Maguire less than a fortnight after he led the club to a stunning premiership.
Their victims on that occasion were the Storm. The imminent loss of Pezet heaps more pain on the Storm given the club and coach Craig Bellamy did their best to convince the 22-year-old to stay.
However, Pezet ultimately decided his career would be best served elsewhere, a decision which will have ramifications not just for Melbourne, but also potentially the Perth Bears.
There was a school of thought that if Pezet stayed, the Storm would consider giving Cameron Munster permission to speak to the Bears ahead of their addition to the NRL in 2027.
However, any hope the Bears had of signing Munster for their inaugural season would appear to be gone given Pezet’s departure.“
Gotta feel sorry for Parra, once again look like missing the target long term.

Pezet and Moses isn't really a great halves pairing to me anyway. I'd be happy enough if we signed him with a view to potentially being the man to replace Moses long term and made it work before that, but otherwise I think they're too similar in style.

I don't think there's any value signing him for a year to develop him for someone else. I can only figure that they're back Lorenzo Talataina to be ready as a genuine six in 2027, and taking what they can get before that.

Tbh I don't necessarily like that. Lorenzo is 18 and quite a small body, so he'd want to fill out IMO and there's never a guarantee with young players. Carving up kids is very different to playing NRL footy. That said we've signed him through 2028 so they've clearly got a plan. If he does kick on, Pezet and Lorenzo long term though....

I dont want to lose Bula but dont believe he's worth the $900k option, not even $800k. Would say around $650k-$700k would be about right

I wonder with Perth being able to throw there hat into the ring and pay a little premium, whether that's something he is interested in. That said, it's not like his partner will be able to play for a Perth WNRL club, so that will limit his suitors quite a bit.

Article says tigers didn’t take up his option so probs Richo telling him they only keep him for less

From what I’ve heard the tigers have said they won’t pay him a premium for one year if he’s just going to leave. Chances are they’ll overpay to keep him if he’s signs a 3/4 year deal. They offered Stefano overs and in hindsight were very lucky he knocked them back.

My guess is they’ll offer him something like $2.4m for 3 years. He’d be stupid not to take it. Bula does a lot of good things but I don’t think he has the ceiling of some other younger fullbacks. I don’t ever see him being a top 5 fullback.
