Origin they are paying five millon

But the fact nz is getting an origin shows they have their eyes on it

Warriors are a lazy club like the broncos were pre dolphins

Since the dolphins came in broncos crowds are up 30 percent, membership is up hugely and they just won a comp

I expected the warriors will also improve similarly with the competition from Christchurch
Monopolies are BAD. The Warriors currently have a monopoly on NZ league fans looking for a home-based team to cheer for.

The competition from Christchurch is EXACTLY what they need, and Christchurch/Canterbury province knows how to "bring it" in any sport.. and their rivalry with Auckland is insanely intense.

Perth got across the because of the WA Govt money, and Cook driving it…PVL used to joke that Cook was ringing him every week ….

Are the money and the Govt interest the same with Christchurch ?
We won't be even looking at team 20 for 4 or 5 years. What was the level of government investment for PNG or Perth 4 or 5 years ago?
Who was even in government?

When the time comes, it'll be obvious. It's obvious to me now or anyone who thinks about it.

How much money is involved in staging a game in a city in investment, infrastructure, tourism, Jobs ect.. 5 million for an Origin Auckland considers a win.. one game.
Having a team, that employs players, coaches, media, marketing ect ect, bringing in investment to your city, tourism.. heck, even the stadium rent. That's all money, publicity and general economic uplift for the NZ economy.

They'll pay big for it, is say at least what Perth paid but maybe more.
Of course the NZ government, Christchurch ect won't need to put in a cent if it's a certainty to gain inclusion..
That's where Brisbane 3 will apply the pressure, Valandy's will squeeze every last penny..
Perth thought they could call his bluff but eventually gaved and stumped up the cash.

It'll provide great theater and give people like yourself hope for Brisbane but it's just a negotiating tactic.

NZ 2 .

Yes ..we are years away from Team 20… probably 2031 entry at the earliest by my guesstimate … likely it will be later… so we are at least three years from now of any announcement… I mean you were the one talking up NZ2 likely entry right?

I don’t even want Brisbane 3 to get it over NZ2 … I just think that will be the way they go mainly due to the politics of Ikin and the QRL compared with NZ which are babes in the woods comparatively…. ikin will get them on the hop with the “AFL threat” and the media will jump on board accordingly… the likes of Webster and Buzz are already over that now…

Also .. I don’t see the enthusiasm for NZ2 from PVL and Abdo when they are asked about putting a team there…. Yes it is possible that they have too much else on their plate at the moment and it’s too far into the future …I would prefer to see them talking it up though more than what they do now

Referencing the Orcas bid is like when PR used to reference the Perth bid from his Pawn broker mate…I suspect the Orcas bid is in the same place as that one …in the bin…

I don’t go and reread 12 month old League media news mate …much more interested in what is happening now …which appears to be very little

Lol, orcas are associated with Wellington too. Another knock on Christchurch team.

They don’t need to spend big in nz

They have juniors already. On top of that the orcas said they will spend a few million a year on academies all over nz

They have a new stadium that’s one of the best around

The council / bid will build a coe

Orcas said they would pay a license fee of up to 60 million

If they aren’t lieing they need nothing it’s all there

Let the tv deal get sorted and the negotiations with clubs and players re salary cap and club funding finalise which takes out most of next year before they look at team 20

I agree with all of this esp re politics of qrl v nzrl

Only thing I would say is they are taking an origin there

That’s a a pretty bold step

Thanks …I try to live in reality unlike a few here …

Sometimes it’s just like reading the Big Footy zealots but shilling for the NRL
It’s obviously exactly the same. We’re the same people we just grew up watching NRL and they grew up watching AFL. This delusion that their fanboys are somehow worse than ours is all part of the same bullshit.

All very good points but if we do look into the future and we see next year there will be 2 games outside of Auckland and I think they'll both get serious attention for different reasons. The Warriors will play in the brand new 25k covered stadium in Christchurch that will likely sell out and there will be the ANZAC day game played in Wellington that will also likely pull a big audience. Then we're looking at a SOO in Auckland and who knows.. magic round in Auckland doesn't seem too far fetched.

On the Brisbane front and the precived threat of AFL we have the Dolphins only starting their third year in the comp .. yes AFL is a threat to the Dolphins, so why would we give the Dolphins a new threat in their formation?
Why would the NRL cannibalize and undermine a brand it just put their?

Dolphins should be given 20 years to assert itself minimum.

The Dolphins are getting good crowds already .., and If we are saying that Team 20 won’t be coming in until 2031 at the earliest… then the Dolphins will be in Year 9 by then …so well established and even possibly with a premiership under their belt…they are based in a different part of the metropolitan area ..Redcliffe to Ipswich is further apart than Manly to Penrith ..I don’t think they cannibalise each other in such a League mad city…

Anyway … I think I’ll leave it at that for the time being …. Too much time in the future before a decision is made … and a lot can change in the meantime

9 years is a very very small amount of time for a club to establish itself in city that already has the biggest Rugby club in the world and the geography of Sydney and perception about different areas is completely different to Brisbane. There isn't a tribalism throughout different areas in Brisbane, Brisbane is Brisbane. There's people in Ipswich who are Broncos fans and Dolphins fans or other, anyone that you could convince to follow a league team in Brisbane..is ! And the Dolphins should be given 20 years before we're giving them another competitor for hearts and minds in Brisbane.

The Broncos are the biggest brand in Rugby globaly and they got that way because we didn't oversaturate their market. The Dolphins are a great addition, a cross town rivalry. But we want to be careful before we stumble into oversaturation that is Sydney.

Brisbane is definitely good for another club but it's 20 years before we should even be having the conversation.

Brisbane 3 around 2035 with nz 2030/1 is doable

Especially if player depth Improved from png and raiding union players when the salary cap goes up a lot
