Nrl to move opening round to Wembley ?

Also shows benefits of Vegas re rlwc

Shame the poms didn’t stick with the Wolfpack

What time would you play the games to ensure that is comes into Australia at a decent time? Given you have multiple matches being played? USA works cause it does come in at a good time to gain an audience here. But UK means it's absurdly early in England to get games underway in prime time. Or absurdly late in the UK to catch it in the morning here. Either way is not great.

It would be in California. When Pac12 college football use to get shown here those games were kicking off at 1pm or there abouts. Perfect.

I am going to look into this NRL Las Vegas 9s. I honestly know nothing about it.
Who won previous years?

If true, I'm guessing the NRL would be prepared to a hit but I'd rather a double header than a whole round.

Oh it would just be what we are doing now. That split round 1 works well. Extends the season, dominates the news cycle and pushes out AFL. AFL has no answer to it, and I think the NRL will continue to do it. USA just works better for it timezone wise. I think that's the main obstacle to overcome. Even France being 1hr ahead of UK would work a bit better if they wanted to do the late night French time, earlier morning Aussie time.

Its the same reason Asian countries won't work. That 4hrs time difference means that games would be played in the heat during the day over there while it's late Feb/March.

I'd like to see it in Singapore or somewhere in Asia closer to us. Makes it easier for us to travel and we should be doing more to promote the game in Asia.

See my edit. And why that is also not a go to. Maybe that's something they could considering in the middle of winter here when interest is lower. Take a few teams to Singapore or something when they have the bye the next week for a double header. I'm sure the poms would find a matchup or two to take over as well.

You’re right I looked at potential times

One game could be London 11 am which is around 9 pm here but that means the second game is midnight

If they want a good crowd then it’s going to be an awful time for us here

Actually yes it is.

Also they play Rugby Union in it so it will be fine for League.

They play 7s. So the heat isn't a big factor when you are playing 7 min halves, and 14 minutes at a time. That's a bit different to playing NRL level quality for 40mins a time.

EDIT: It is not airconditioned. Just the roof reflects heat and it has a lot of design to allow wind to cool it down naturally.

As I said though it's air conditioned. It's perfectly fine for NRL games.

'To keep 55,000 people cool and comfortable in our tropical heat, you’d need some pretty powerful air-conditioning, right? Wrong. The National Stadium has an innovative bowl cooling system, where cool air of 23 degrees is pumped from underneath all seats, using less than 15% of the energy required for similar conventional air-conditioned stadiums. It’s also partially powered by solar panels, making it even more environmentally-friendly'.

Must-know facts about Singapore Sport Hub’s National Stadium

Either way, what is the intention for this match? Does Singapore have the glamour of Las Vegas? That's part of the attraction of having it played there. This is a big thing for the match.

We aren't suddenly going to be taking over Asia anytime soon. Nor getting the locals to engage with a sport they have never heard of.

Rugby 7's is just a mini carnival, that brings fans from around the world. In this case are Aussies as willing to go to Singapore for the opening round? We would also then need to lock it in for a period to build it up as a venue.

I'd probably just keep it at Las Vegas, and if you want to go down this path, find a better time of year and set of games to promote, like I said, maybe in the May/June window while teams still have hope, and byes can be arranged the week after.

No reason we can't have multiple types of special events throughout the year.

Las Vegas
Magic Round
Another overseas round
Then origins.

I don't know about either of those..
There's way too much work to be done before we can expect any traction on internationals outside of the competing nations , we'd have to see how the opening round fixtures are rating in the US in the coming years.
Maybe in England ,Wales or France for the opening fixtures but I'd be thinking more Old Trafford or Cardiff or Toulouse.

Rugby league WC has trouble funding the whole thing, we need it turning a profit first. Unless the US is the going to pay for it, I'd keep it in the Pacific for the next 3 tournaments and fishing where the fish are! Samoa and Tonga are pulling good crowds in Australia and New Zealand, we need to cash in on that and build momentum before we get too ambitious.

We aren't taking over America either, but that's not stopping us from playing in Vegas. It's a way to promote the game in our region but also making it easier and cheaper for fans to attend. The bonus as well is you can play it at a good time here in Australia.

Eventually Vegas will get old and we will need to either try new places or just give up on the concept. I'm a big fan of moving it around.

Fans get a chance once every five years to go so it’s not like it’s overkill

Plus lv js desperate for tourism now they will pay more for it next time than the 5 million we get now

Maybe if it moved try la or miami they are good tourist destinations not sure about tv times for here though

If Vegas starts selling out it will be a huge money spinner for the nrl
