Just a bit of media manipulation to keep them writing about RL now the year on the field is done with.
This talk is so stupid
If Pvl wants a tv deal of at least 600 million he has zero chance if he proposes a 19 round nrl
Clubs have said they can’t afford to lose 3 home games as well as the cut in value to the tv deal
It’s just bonkers

PVL and Abdo have mentioned it before so there is definitely truth that they want to reduce the season length. If the NRL wants to expand and grow the International game, something needs to give as the players already play enough games. Rugby League is one of the toughest sports in the world and we expect so much out of the players.Just a bit of media manipulation to keep them writing about RL now the year on the field is done with.

I think 20-22 rounds is the perfect length for a NRL season, and it gives the NRL the flexibility to expand the International game.
Yeah, I am struggling to find new links to keep the conversation going.Just a bit of media manipulation to keep them writing about RL now the year on the field is done with.
I'd personally love 5 or 6 a year each. Australia vs NZ and Samoa vs Tonga should be a 2 or 3 game series every year..How many international games do we want ?
I would be happy with a 4 yr cycle of World Cup, 3 Test Tour of England , 5 nations Southern Hemisphere, 3 Test Series v NZ

So say in a Ashes year you can have:
Australia vs NZ (Australia)
NZ vs Australia (NZ)
then Australia heads off to England
Australia vs England x 3
I also like the idea of an Australia B team touring the Pacific. Play in PNG, Fiji, Samoa, Tonga. We have so much talent in Australia and we don't utilise it enough imo.
I was pretty much just copying the format the Bledisloe uses. I don't mind the idea of 2 games.Geez ..imagine how bad the Aussies would be pumping the Poms after two lead up games versus Nz?
2 game series not much good …either 1 or 3…
For the bigger clubs game day revenue can equate to $1-2million a game. Removing $3-6mill out of a clubs budget isn't going to help their finances. That's pretty much the current profit margin of any club at the moment. In relation to the reduction in rounds and TV rights, it will depend on whobidabids. I suspect that being able to say "you will have 19 rounds of NRL matches unaffected by rep stand downs in squads" might be more appealing than spilt rounds with squads composed of 50% or more reserve grade players playing a televised game?
I question the part about clubs can't afford to lose 3 home games. If they are that much on a financial cusp, considering the size of the NRL grant, then some have problems with their business models in my opinion.
On the flip side 9 home games might mean higher average crowds and better margin on tickets. Average game revenue to profit per game would be a lot less than the figures you have listed. I’m for a 5 division 22 games league with the 10 team finals format once we have 20 teams. Either stand alone origin or compressed into a shorter window with a international window at end of seasonFor the bigger clubs game day revenue can equate to $1-2million a game. $1-2m as being anything typical is an over reach.. unless you are the broncos playing at Suncorp …For the bigger clubs game day revenue can equate to $1-2million a game. Cooperates is never full when the Tigers play at Commbank, not even half full.$1-2m as being anything typical is an over reach.. unless you are the broncos playing at Suncorp …
Your man Shane Richardson who turned around the Tigers in 18 months financially, said that the sold out Comm Bank game against the Eels on Easter Monday had about a million in revenue… that’s a 30k stadium with plenty of corporates ( where the real money is made) compared with your typical suburban crowd that would be struggling for half that amount I would wager
It was last year according to Richo for this game … probably a lot of Parra Corporates jumping on boardCooperates is never full when the Tigers play at Commbank, not even half full.
For Eels games it’s lalmost always full.

That’s false , the football club made a profit from 2019- 2023 , not sure on the last 2 financial yearsEdit - Also the Eels football club lose money each year and need an injection of pokies money to balance the books …… not that I have a problem with that because they are spending money trying to win games and improve the team

The Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs do too if memory serves.
