I refuse to believe that V`landys has made so many public statements about this being a record broadcast deal if he didn`t truly believe he couldn`t deliver it, he must know a lot of things that we don`t.
The old deal is low that’s his benchmark

If he’s not beating the afl deal by a fair margin he’s failed which ignoring Telstra is around 580 to 600 million pa

Even before expansion he’s thumping the afl tv ratings

I think Stan will do enough to get it to at least 600 million with no change in current broadcasters

I think with nz he should close to 650 million pa or a cash increase of around 200 million ps

Foxtel is paying nrl around 200 million pa now. Afl is getting 418 million pa from them under their new deal

The best thing about SoO being on another channel is we won’t have to hear about predicted origin trams after r1
I think the main positives are:
1) Not having to put up with Gus
2) No ads for the block.

I am slightly torn - having everything on one FTA provider is simple for people. But it means the others will ignore it.

On the other hand, fragmentation is very confusing and would likely limit cross promotion.

What would people think about something like:
- All games of any variety on a single PayTV provider be that Fox or DAZN.
- FTA split as follows
- Regular season on 9
- Origin on 10
- International on 7

That is a nice spread ensuring that all networks get on board and promote. But i can see 9 throwing a hissy fit if they don't get it all.

As a bonus one of them could pick up late night NRL Europe.

Playing devils advocate here.
Why would 9 promote SOO or internationals if on another channel?

Channel 10 viewership is low now, so the non-diehard league fan won't know SOO is on 10 if they can't be bothered searching instead of having all games on the 1 channel who would then cross promote.

Maybe more value to the FTA provider in having regular season and SOO bundled together they would offer more for the rights rather than separate packages.

Does State of Origin really need cross promotion?

I mean are we saying that the casual fan will seek out NRL games, but not Origin?

This seems to be number 999 on the list of issues regarding a TV deal.

Why would 9 promote the afl Grand final when they don't have the rights. Commentators mention rugby and afl in games now. There is no way they don't mention SOO
Do you think the people who don't have the super bowl that year don't mention it

Do they actually promote it with ads or during their league coverage or just in their sports reports?

Once a TV deal is signed, any promotion is ONLY for the benefit of the TV station itself.

It means nothing for Rugby League. The NRL still gets is cash.

This is a nothing burger.

There was an article saying they might get involved in the nrl tv rights.

Super league certainly should be using them

The main positives for me are:
Possibly not crossing to the coach mid game.
Not having to listen to Gus.
Not having to listen to Fitler .
Not having to listen to Johns.
Not having to listen to Gus

Also think I would be better if we didn't have to listen to Gus.

Generally, as it stands. Channel 9 team are working overtime to complain about the game and make what should be extra exciting.. boring.

There's no possibility that anyone could do a worse job, so I welcome to prospects of anyone else getting the game.

V'landys has been working his butt off to get the product to where it is, promote it and grow the ratings and profile of the sport both here and abroad.
It's all been a lead up to this deal.
I really hope he pulls off a massive deal!
