Decent defensive systems would help his defence and I think we have that now, or at least the eye test seems to confirm that.

Was looking at our 2022 season and our defence, especially out wide, was pathetic and I have no idea how we made the g/f. Look at our D now, the whole line slides in unison out wide and looks a lot more cohesive.

Our edges were getting stripped for 11yrs and no answer. Ryles has tightened the D up thats for sure.

I'd say it was injuries that cost him his job, especially Moses'. After ten years without a premiership there needs to be a scapegoat, and any misfortune will be blamed on the coach. As you say, it happens everywhere eventually. The Tigers keep letting go of coaches and don't improve. Cleary and Maguire have both won premierships since leaving Wests so it wasn't the coach, but someone has to be the scapegoat. The coach is the only club official most fans ever see.

Timing kept him in a job for much longer then deserved
2014 epic fail missing the 8. That squad was a top 8 squad and Hayne reached his peak. Only had to win 1 of last 2 games against weak sides and copped thrashings.
2015 he got the Hayne Excuse
2016 salary cap ( Fair enough I pay that)
2022 - Strong sides had injury crisis and we got lucky. 8th best points differential shows where we were in reality.

Let's just say what we thought was BAD LUCK for Parra was actually good luck for BA.

Our middle was always the problem, and yes more mobile middle defenders should solve it. Teams concede more out wide because they compress in the middle. The reason they compress in the middle is because they have to due to fatigue or just being overpowered. This has been the case in rugby league since at least the early 90s when I started watching the game more analytically.

So you think BA should of went for smaller and more mobile forwards ? He had that option.
And secondly this is not completely true. A gun centre or wing will read the play and shut it down. Id say Fox is a huge reason our defens is better. His communication with Russel was first class. The other side was shaky.

No Thats bullshit because Penriths style was in full force end of 2021. They were built on small fast forwards with big strong backs. Every club at this point has seen it for 2yrs and moved towards mobile forwards and a ball playing lock with power backs. Everyone knew thats was the way to go back then.
