Rumours and Stuff

Brian Kelly isn’t uprooting his life to play reserve grade. If we sign him, pencil him straight into the centres for Round 1 against the Storm. Morgan Harper walked in and got the gig; Kelly will be no different.

The Roosters pick up players like Garrick, while we end up with blokes like Kelly. That’s the reality now. It’s grim, but with our limp recruitment crew, genuine stars won’t come here unless we throw stupid money at them like we did for Foran—or we gamble on someone their old club couldn’t stand, like Lomax, and then inherit all the chaos that comes with his unpredictable headspace.
Garrick is no world beater if anything I think Kelly is the better signing

Arent Arthars and Tualagi still signed until end of 2026? I know Kelly is to, but there seems more of a chance that he will be released for 2026.
Look at how the Roosters and Storm act, sign decent and contributing players for 2027, and then try and work out a release. We seem to be fearful of these sort of negotiations. Not unhappy with Kelly, but we dont see the off-season kick we did under Brian Smith, they were happy days.

Don’t bother to comment Pou, it’s not necessary and won’t add anything.

I’ll be the judge of that. Anyway I agree for the most part, other than the following:

Why would anyone be ‘fearful’ of contract negotiations? The worst that could happen is that the player demands too much and you miss out. Then you’ve lost nothing.

The NRL was far less professional and competitive 20 years ago, so Smith was able to operate as both the head coach and GM. Of course it was easier to sign players. Most talented juniors didn’t have managers then either, so it was easy to lock them in long term on unders.
