Location definitely makes a difference. I doubt Ryles if he was at the Dragons would have got Iongi down to the gong so easily. Money, opportunity, winning and proximity to home/where you want to live all make a difference.

Depends where you are coming from..
Yes of course. I'll clarify......Anywhere from the Eastern and Southern suburbs, Redfern, Tempe, Marrickville. I will concede that with all the new toll roads has made the Sydney travel a bit better, but the open driving to the Gong is still preferred. The toll roads in sydney can be a car park.

If a player is being offered over 500k+ and can't be arsed driving an extra 30-50 mins to training then you just move on. Not good enough for Saints. Look at Gutho, he jumped at the chance to move from Northern Beaches to the Gong. Having a home ground that has the ocean in the backdrop, it's not as if the Gong is a terrible place to live, it is probably one of the nicest areas to live in just outside of Sydney.

Would you knock back an offer for a job of 500k+ because you have to travel an extra 30-50min? It's different if your offered a small salary but anything above 200k surely you would jump at it.

Let me assure you that the commute to Wollongong is a pleasure when compared to commuting to Parramatta, Penrith, Manly, Newcastle, Canberra.
Yes especially when you consider they will be commuting against the flow. Whether by road or rail the commute will be far easier and more enjoyable because everyone else is going the other way. When I lived in Thirroul many years ago I commuted to the city every day with the other sardines and I would have given anything to be sitting on those virtually empty trains going in the other direction.

Anyone suggesting distance is an issue is a DINOSAUR. There are more people at my work who commute from the central coast/Wollongong to Sydney CBD than there are people living in Sydney. Wollongong has gentrified a lot over the years and it is now a place people actually chose to live. Get with the times

I was in Wollongong in January this year catching up with some mates on Australia Day. Prior to that, the last time I was there was probably 10 or so years ago and I couldn't believe how much it had changed and thought how nice it would be to live and work there.

the GC to Bris vs Gong to Sydney isnt really a fair comparison either.

The GC has even more nightlife than Bris so ofc young men are going to want to live there. Keeps them out of sight too.

The Gong isnt exactly that.

Very salient point you make.

If the Gong was all things people in here declare it to be and the commute so easy, then surely there would be a strong cohort of players from Sydney based clubs especially Sharks, Roosters, Rabbits, West Tigers, Dogs living there and doing exactly that, but to the very best of my knowledge that is not the case.

What’s good for the goose surely must be good for the gander.

While most of us plebs probably travel an hour or more each way to work and get heaps less than the average first grader, you also have to factor in that us plebs probably don't have 3 or 4 companies chasing us for our services while a first grader might have multiple clubs so will look at money, travel time, will the team be competitive, opportunities outside of league, etc when deciding where to play. It's not a simple "I travel 1 hour each day to work so why can't a league player" or "I would prefer to live in Wollongong than Sydney if I had a choice".

Pull out of the deal and do what? Just give up? Or is there a long list of other International Front Row targets you've got there that are currently available to talk to that we should turn our attention to? Your comments are always so incredibly negative, contradictory, and overly emotional.
