It was always going to increase, despite who owned it. By the time the new nrl deal kicks in it will be $60 a month.
That’s why they need to cut the afl tv deal

Afl subs will have to wear the cost of an increased nrl deal even though their numbers are smaller and their disposable income is lower

Remember when people on here said there would be no tv money for the png nrl side

Love this forum

Assuming it’s mainly fta they will get massive exposure

Wonder how digicel fits into this

“There is a commercial element to this, and television coverage is a revenue mechanism for the NRL and its franchises,” Marape told NBC News. “For our team, NBC stands out as our national broadcast network, with a reach that is second to none."

I mean, what does this confirm?

f**k all.

Logic dictates there is little to no value in PNG TV.

I mean it would be one of the smallest TV markets in the world.

Looks like piracy is back on the menu than.

It means that a lot of people will just stop watching it unfortunately

Under a possible arrangement from 2028 onwards, NBC would carry the NRL feed across the country while international broadcasters continue to handle production,

So, as expected, PNG home games will be a loss maker for Australian TV.

I assume the will be seeking some Federal government funding to cover this.

Wouldn’t it be nrl negotiating tv deals not the png govt?

by the time the new deal kicks in ?

thats only 2 years away so highly unlikely
might go up a bit
basic to $40 a month , will still be huge value for money
bit over a dollar a game

Their cost base will increase by about 100m annually if they win the rights, all while set top boxes decline, they need to recoup that some how.

$10 X 2 million ( remaining set tops & kayo) X 12 is 240 million PA
increases in advertising too
They will increase the cost , but $60.... no way in hell

Hopefully 170 million more is what they should be paying
They pay 260 million PA atm

400 , or over a 50% increase with the extra game ..
is a fair price based on what they pay that other mob

with FTA dropping in 200 for 3 NRL games per week, origin NRLW & Internationals
NZ 50 mill

we win easily when you consider the AFL have about 90 mill in fluff in their deal

The nrl season doesn’t go for 12 months, they face significant churn each year. It’s already gone up 15% for this year, add a new rights deal for the nrl onto existing rights deal for afl and an increase of another 30% by 2028 is hardly unthinkable.

Afl is getting 418 million pa and nrl obliterates it before you include two more teams

If Pvl wants a good deal then 450 million pa for the pay tv rights is the minimum

If he can jag 500 million for pay tv, 150 million from fta, nz 40 million and png say 10 million then yeh he’s done well

It would be something else for the NRL to gouge the third or fourth poorest country in the world for TV rights.
