If they do have a 19 round comp where each team plays each other once during the season you could have a proper home and away season over 2 years. Also it frees up time where teams aren't penalised come State Of Origin time.
Also it could possibly lead to a proper pre season comp where all teams had something to play for so in sense you would still have plenty of telecast games earlier in the season.

This may or may not work financially or logistically but it's just a thought of possibly having a more even draw.

when we start considering the merits of a preseason competition at the same time we are talking about meaningful games in the regular season being removed .., I dunno … we are losing something there

True, as i said just a thought and there are reasons why it might not work or it may, with 20 teams it probably would not work but i loved it back in the day of the old 12 team comp but then you could still have a proper home and away competition also with it. I'm just putting up some ideas if they are thinking of reducing the comp to 19 rounds and still be able to get in some more telecast games.

That's one of the key points the article had, it was whether the broadcasters would be willing to pay the same amount for less games.

Geez Penrith have a tough draw.

Play 6 of the top 8 teams twice, trips to Mudgee, Bathurst, Darwin and NZ, play 3 teams coming off a bye (tied most of any club), and two of those teams they play off the back of a bye is in Mudgee and Darwin.

They're a couple of injuries away from coming bottom 4.

How do you know who the top 8 teams in 2026 are?

Really wish they didn't play pre-season games at regular NRL grounds. McDonald Jones, WIN, Kogarah and Leichhardt get their fair share of matches every year, the Pre-Season Challenge should be an opportunity to take matches to areas which don't usually host games.

Wagga, Coffs Harbour, Bathurst, Cessnock, Albury, Maitland, Lismore, Cairns, Rockhampton, Bundaberg, Gladstone and Toowoomba all have venues that have hosted NRL or Pre-Season matches in the past, and would be more than capable of taking some of these matches.

Does anyone know the start time of the 2 Vegas games? Can’t seem to find confirmation anywhere although I would assume the Dogs/Dragons clash would be the 2nd game and on FTA
