A complete rebuild of Accor isnt going to happen in the near future.
That ship has sailed and Sydney got 3 new Rugby League stadiums within this cycle.
If its a roof, then so be it.
Transport to Sydney Olympic Park will be fixed with the Metro and no one can then complain about the weather as an excuse not to go.
Either a roof or its nothing.
I’d prefer nothing. A roof will make any future redevelopment even more complicated and costly

Accor gets around 10 concerts per year averaging 80,000.
Ticket prices is also be much higher than an NRL game.
They wont sit on this for 10 years.

Unless they do something similar that was proposed in the Gladys era where they reconfigured the ground into a rectangular configuration and added a roof for 1B, which would probably be now 1.5B - forget about it.

This was the proposal which would reconfigure Accor to a 70,000 rectangular stadium, not an enclosed roof but more roof coverage.

If they do something like this great, just putting a roof on the stadium and not changing the stands configuration is an absolute disaster for sport in the ground.

Imagine they built a rectangular 80k stadium with a roof how good that would be

If the qld premier was smart he would build that in qld and secure the nrl grand final for 30 years but he’s not interested in the post games legacy in Brisbane

yes if the QLD government were smarter they could've build a rectangular 75k stadium with a roof and stolen the NRL gf and countless more events. They could have just upgraded Gabba for the athletics and then held the opening/closing ceremonies at a the new rectangular ground.

Qld could have had a stadium used for the NRL GF, SOO, regular sellouts for Broncos, and used it as leverage to get a third NRL team in Brisbane playing out of it too. 3 tenants + NRL GF + SOO + Concerts.

Stupidly there wasn't any pressure from the NRL. Now they get an oval used by 1 tenant and cricket a few times a year.

QLD had an opportunity to position itself as the centre of the rugby league universe but let it go to give a Fumbles team a nicer stadium that will never be filled.

Las Vegas stadium doesn't have a retractable roof.

The grass field slides in from outside.

How can you do a roof on the current Homebush stadium which isn't retractable?

Venues NSW boss reveals secret business case backs Las Vegas-style stadium roof

Government bean-counters have given a Las Vegas-style roof for Accor Stadium the tick of approval, with a feasibility study finding the benefits outweigh the $300m-plus cost.

Plans to put a Las Vegas-style roof over Accor Stadium are a step closer to reality after state government bean-counters gave it the tick of approval.
A government feasibility study has found the benefits of putting a roof on the Olympic-era venue would outweigh the project’s costs, heaping pressure on the Minns government to commit to the plans.

Sports Minister Steve Kamper first flagged enclosing Accor Stadium with a roof in 2024 after watching NRL’s inaugural extravaganza in Sin City.

Sporting and business leaders have long argued for Sydney to have an enclosed stadium, to end the embarrassment of having major events rained out or cancelled due to weather.

Venues NSW boss Kerrie Mather revealed in a budget estimates hearing on Thursday the project had been ticked off with a “positive” business case and sent to the state government for funding “consideration”.

She said the benefit-cost ratio (BCR) was “between one and 1.5”, meaning the benefits outweighed the costs.

Ms Mather made the extraordinary admission by mistake, later insisting details of the project were “cabinet in confidence”.

Mr Kamper refused to commit to building the roof, despite the positive BCR.

“We are continuing to assess the business case for an operable roof at Accor Stadium,” a spokesman said.

Ms Mather said the cost was estimated to be well over $300m.

She said an enclosed stadium could add sporting and entertainment events to Sydney’s calendar and make the Harbour City “really competitive” with Melbourne.

It would make it “less risky for promoters to actually commit to a much longer stay when they’ve actually got more protection”, she said.

“With a roof, it actually makes the prospect of a cricket world cup a really attractive proposition, and it makes us really competitive with the MCG,” Ms Mather said.

Accor Stadium is Sydney’s largest venue, and the stage for the city’s biggest sporting events, including the NRL grand final and State of Origin matches.

It also recently hosted global music acts Oasis and Ed Sheeran.

Business Sydney executive director Paul Nicolaou said a stadium that was “only just good enough for the 20th century needs to be brought up to date for the 21st century in line with Sydney’s status as a global city”.

“It would strengthen Sydney’s ability to compete with modern international venues and attract blockbuster events that drive tourism, investment and economic activity,” he said.

“As Australia’s global city, Sydney needs world-class stadium infrastructure, and a retractable roof would future-proof Accor Stadium as the premier destination for major events.”

Rabbitohs chief executive Blake Solly said the “talk of a roof is good news” but a lot more needed to be done to bring the stadium – South Sydney’s home ground – up to scratch.

“We welcome any discussion about improving the experience at Accor Stadium. We, along with a number of others, have been advocating the stadium needs a significant refurbishment for 15 years,” Mr Solly said.

Liberal sport spokeswoman Natalie Ward supported the roof, and called for the government to release its business case.

“The public at least deserve to see the cost and benefits of putting a roof on Accor Stadium,” she said.

Accor is not fixable ,
And it would cost a billion to get a roof on it , more then it cost to build the entire venue & it soooo not even needed

put this billion aside for 10 years & then add another billion to that , bulldoze accor to the ground & build a
" proper" 70K seat venue without a roof

It can be done with a translucent polymer roof which can let through 90% of the light and therefore natural grass can be grown.
Forsythe Barr in Dunedin NZ as an example.

In 10 years it will be $10Billion+
Waste of time to put aside any money for 2036.

That roof cost probably 50 mill dollars back then & maybe 200 mill now & dundedin is colder then Canberra
Accors would cost a billion because it is covering twice the area as above & is completely unnecessary

Without pulling down the whole venue, this is the best option.
Level 6 wont change but the remaining 55,000 seats would of been completely reconfigured.
Level 6 will only be used once it exceeds 55,000.
The rest wouldve been brand new.
As for the roof, they wont spend any money on Accor without doing the roof no matter what.

The push for the roof is coming from Event promoters.
If I was PVL & faced with the prospect of being stuck with that turd Accor in its present configuration forever , which is what a roof would do

I'd threaten to take the NRL GF away from Sydney permanently & take it to Suncorp
