The Lions won't average 40K even as premiers in a new stadium. By the time it's finished they could well be sliding back down the ladder again where they will be lucky to average 20K.

It will cost $2B-$3B to rebuild Accor.
No government will do this in todays environment.
Gladys nearly got it done for $1B but was killed off by the ALP,SCG trust, fake outcry by Fitzsimons and Covid.
Its roof or nothing.
This is incorrect!

Gladys the Bin Chicken overturned the previous Premier's (Baird) commitment to a proper rectangular stadium rebuild of Stadium Australia by kowtowing to the SCG Trust cronies to give them a brand new Sydney Football Stadium instead.

She did the dirty on the NRL big time and it's not surprising that she eventually resigned in disgrace...

Gladys herself didn't care one way or the other. The one who "pulled the strings" was Stuart Ayres, who when she became Premier, Gladys re-appointed him as Minister for Sport.

Ayres then drove through re-routing the money for Accor to finance the knock down of the SFS and building of Allianz. Ayres was thick as with the then SCG Trust, especially its then fumbler Chairman and Alan Jones.

In a sign of karma, Ayres lost his seat at the 2023 election.

When the NRL completes the next tv deal, Abdo PVL and Co. should start focusing on stadiums. To get the necessary venues, which would benefit the code, the commission needs to have new strategies. With suburban, regional and major stadiums, each category may require different tactics.

With suburban grounds like Brookvale, Campbelltown, Penrith, Shark Park, the NRL should not get too involved. Instead give those clubs advice, such as an upgraded suburban ground could be part of an urban renewal project.

Regional stadiums in Newcastle and Wollongong are part of VenusNSW. The NRL should lobby for those grounds. Meanwhile the strategy for Canberra is for every rectangular code to be united and lobby for a new stadium. Mt Smart could do the same with the Warriors and Auckland FC.

For major grounds like Accor and Suncorp, the NRL needs to leverage. For example, the NRL signs a 20 year deal with VenusNSW for hosting rights of the GF to stay in Sydney, and in exchange,,Accor gets an upgrade (bring ends closer). At Suncorp, possibly sign a 20 year deal with the Qld government for Magic Round to stay in Brisbane, and in exchange, Suncorp expands to 65k to 70k.

They had a strategy

But Pvl didn’t get in writing then the nsw govt reneged

League probably needs New premiers in nsw. And qld neither cares much about the game and are too busy worrying about things that don’t influence Australia or their states

And he scrapped the proposal for Suncorp to get a billion to build Victoria park
and yet theyre still spending on 3 rugby league grounds upgrades. again how does it show qld doesnt care about the game?

he also didn't scrap anything. the whole suncorp and qe 2 combo thing was one of like 5 proposals. like gabba rebuild. like new stadium in hamilton.. thats all it was, proposals.. victoria park precinct won out

steven miles didn't want gabba rebuild, then came election and that proposal couldnt be salvaged.
equally the $1.6b upgrade cash for qe2 got rejected too. suncorp would only have seen minimal and it wouldnt have beens a proper upgrade anyways. it was a lesser uplift because instead corners having seats theyd have screens.... see link dated july 2025

The Miles government had planned to upgrade Suncorp Stadium ahead of Brisbane 2032 as the host venue for the opening and closing ceremonies.

According to renders captured in this masthead’s RTI request, those upgrades would not dramatically change the 52,500-seat venue, which was largely rebuilt more than 20 years ago.

The upper corners would have been filled in with new screens, while a giant screen would have been installed overlooking the Caxton Street plaza outside the stadium.

But while Suncorp Stadium upgrades no longer feature in the government’s 2032 delivery plan, the upgrades could still be on the table.

“Suncorp Stadium is a world-class stadium, and we’re not going to let it wither on the vine ahead of 2032,” Crisafulli said when he unveiled the Games delivery plan in March.

“It will continue to be a world-class stadium and we will invest in it.”

Kellie Sloane is the current Liberal Leader. No idea what she thinks of league.

If and when Minns goes, the favourite to replace him is his deputy, Prue Car. Car was one of the most vociferous opponents against Allianz Stadium and stadium funding in general. As such I doubt she'll have much sympathy for stadium funding for sport.

I’m a sharks fan and ocean protect stadium sucks I hate it.

But again how pathetic is this angle from the Tele. A bird shits on a seat … and that’s the sharks fault. Not to mention, take a wide shot so I know where it is. Likely on concourse and not worth $2500 per year. Actually no season seats are that expensive. Piss orf.

Long story short, birds shit outside.

I agree with this.
Shark Park or whatever its 30th name is, is an absolute shithole, but this is an awful typically Telegraph clickbait and misleading article.
