I'd do away with the double header altogether.. except for the opener and finals. all games should be at HBF.
I think crowds crowds will die off for the double header when we get a game here every fortnight. Be interesting what we get next month

forget HBF, simply not big enough for their first home game in Perth
which could attract 40K , will be plenty of gawk factor for this piece of History ...

needs to be optus
Yeh especially as souths will bring loads over

Interesting to see how negative Perth red is on their potential crowd for that

The Bears are still discussing the possibility of playing one home game a year in Sydney.
While the club hasn’t yet made any formal decisions, that Sydney game could be against old foes, Manly.
It has been suggested the Sea Eagles game could potentially be played at North Sydney Oval, but it could easily be contested at Allianz Stadium, where the match could pull a crowd of around 30,000 to 35,000.
I get it: a home game in Sydney against Manly would be a money spinner but why not play Manly in Perth, and have Manly host the bears at the SFS?

‘Third biggest club in the NRL’: Bears legend’s defiant call ahead of 2027

Peter Maniaty

He was never afraid to speak his mind during his playing days.

Now a favourite son of the North Sydney Bears Billy Moore has made a huge call on the Perth Bears, describing the NRL’s 18th franchise as a juggernaut that’s destined to become one the game’s biggest clubs within a decade.

A former Queensland and Australian second rower, Moore played his entire 211-game career with North Sydney and when the Bears stopped in 1999 so did he, hanging up the boots at the age of just 28.

Speaking as a club ambassador on the Perth Bears podcast this week Moore, 54, could barely contain his excitement for the Western Australian rugby league community and rusted-on North Sydney Bears fans who’ve been without an NRL team for the entirety of the 21st century.

A former Queensland and Australian second rower, Moore played his entire 211-game career with North Sydney and when the Bears stopped in 1999 so did he, hanging up the boots at the age of just 28.

“It’s going to be great fun,” Moore said with a massive smile.

“I am so thankful that the North Sydney Bears have partnered up with WA.”

‘This is going to be a juggernaut’ declares Billy Moore

Recounting the pivotal role the Bears played his own career, and life, Moore pointed to the massive wave of energy and excitement that’s building around the Perth club’s NRL debut in less than 12 months under the guidance of head coach Mal Meninga.

“This is going to be a juggernaut, it is going to be enormous—inside 10 years we’re going to be the third biggest club in the NRL,” he declared boldly.

“Yes, it’s a huge statement, but I can feel the energy that lies in the west and the future will grow here.

“But remember in the east you already have 220,000 of me (diehard Bears fans) who didn’t give up, so what do you think they’re going to do? They’ll go crazy!”

“It’s not going to be easy, but in ten years we’ll be the third biggest franchise in the league.”

‘We’ve both waited a long time for our resurrection’

Moore suggested rugby league fans in Perth and North Sydney have been instantly united through the shared pain of losing their beloved first-grade sides in the late 1990s.

“WA already had a rugby league side (Western Reds), after five years they were wrongly cut out in 1997 and we (North Sydney) were wrongly cut out in 1999, so we’ve both waited a long time for our resurrection,” he explained.

“Rugby league is alive and well here, there’s more than just green shoots and it will ignite.

“Geez it’s good to be back.”

Souths at Optus in round 1 then Easts away at the SFS in round 2 would be the best option.

Guaranteed 2 x 40K crowds to kick off their season.
Yeh great idea

Between chooks bears and neutrals the Sydney game would sell out for sure

That would see the club average around 20k a season

Billy Moore and Mal Meninga: surely enough evidence that the NRL should take concussions more seriously based on their recent comments of Perth winning comp in first year and being the 3rd biggest NRL club within 10 years.

Depends on the metric. Aren’t the Dolphins the second most sponsored or something like that?

I don’t agree with some of the stick you get on here PR, but to suggest a double header for Perth's first game and to take away the hype that should only go to the Perth Bears is crazy.

Agree with R&BB, save the double header for later in season and maybe when Perth has a lower drawing team at home to get a bigger crowd.
If playing at Optus and difference between 30-35k for aBears stand alone game or nearly filling it with a double header I’d go double header every day of week. wouldn’t play a mid season double header, by then our form will have kicked in and the hype won’t be there, every other game at hbf, with one at Allianz if we must.

Interestingly so far the fan split on social media, merch purchasing etc has been 80-20 perth to east coast. If we are going to be amongst the biggest clubs we are going to need more of those 220k NS fans to get on board.

This far out I’d guess and say 30-35k would be the expectation if at optus. could push 40k if marketed and priced well.
Could push 45-50k if a double header with couple of popular teams,

I'm all for HBF being the first game, and vs Souths, with the timekeeper's bell couldn't be more perfect.

I'd keep HBF as the Perth destination all 2027. Build it up as a hot ticket and sell it out as much as possible. Include Optus in the draw for "28 if the demand is justified.

Round 2 against Bulldogs at Accor for anyone who doesn't make the pilgrimage to WA in Round 1.
Makes sense to be one of the Tigers' Leichardt games at some stage, and the Roosters with Polytec.
