One thing needs to be sorted in the next deal, commentators have to be at the ground. Just watching Warriors v Raiders, they're not even trying. The sound from the ground is like background noise, and the fact Ennis didn't realise Capewell wasn't on the field until the game had started shows he's in a studio watching a screen.

Why don't we get the Kiwi Sky Sports feed.

Yeah I don't understand why we just don't get the Kiwi feed? Or at least give us the option.

Eddie Ego was parroting the same bs line about the nrl season not being worth anything without origin.

In this format isn't. FTA need to be exclusive.

Especially the NRLW, It is played on TV worst day and the audience gets split between 2 networks.

An Irish rugby union fan pretending he understands the intricacies of the Australian tv market and how that applies to rugby league has got to be n of the funniest things I’ve seen on rugby league forums

Imagine one of us went on planet rugby and told them the six nations tv deal was going down bc Dazn cut the tv rights for the afl or other similar nonsense
The “intricacies” of the Australian tv market are largely in the public record.

Seven is getting sold, it doesn’t make money.

The Nine Network and the wider company have seen plunging advertising revenue.

For the Australian specific points with global impacts, Channel 10 is owned by Paramount (see above for considerations about them). Warner Brothers Discovery is disappearing (which will impact all rights holders globally).

Foxtel is now owned by DAZN, who are looking to shed costs and their newest benefactor is looking to cut back on their sport spending largesse.

ABC, SBS…yeah nah.

Amazon walked away from the EPL because it was too expensive, despite the fact that rights values actually fell.

Netflix aren’t interested.

Disney? Who knows, maybe there’s interest.

There are both local and global factors that influence this.

You just post numbers and buzzwords but have no concept of them.

Been waiting for this response

You’ve said the nrl will get 550 million for its tv rights

Can you provide a breakup of this figure across broadcasters to show you didn’t just make up this number

For their last tv deal the afl did the following to get an increase

Extra round of football (gather round)
Extra team Tasmania devils
Longer deal 7 years

For our next deal nrl will have over last tv deal

Women’s origin
Expanded pacific cup
Perth bears
PNG chiefs
We can also copy their deal length which means next time around we can use their deal as a benchmark

They will probably also include Christchurch as past of the tv deal coming in the later years of this tv deal
New content is the key

Not sure if radio is part of the next deal, but just tuned in to MMM to listen to the Saturday show and got an AFL game. Even tapped on the ‘Triple M Rocks the NRL’ tab and still got the AFL.
Assuming this is related to some ongoing deal, needs to be sorted.

The NRL needs to get this deal done pronto.

GFC 2.0 is forming very quickly and could effect anything not bolted down.
Yep looking like an economic slowdown could end up being a meltdown which wouldn’t be good

Which is why Pvl delaying the tv deal to get England involved was stupid

Lock in the extra money then worry about England later

Yep this media deal needs to be done pronto. If super league don’t come back soon PVL should move ahead. Even 3 months deadline is too generous, should’ve been 4 weeks.

Good luck trying to sell the game on the back of these rules. Should have got it done before the season started

Sellouts across the board, massive ratings and our PM celebrating on the field with a broken record.

You might have depression.

Private credit collapse unfolding in the US- watch this space.
Yeh saw that

Blackrock and someone else

Can’t believe share market isn’t down 30 percent plus

Worst case we do a 2 year rollover of the current deal we still have value for tv

I’m not a cultist mate. The football was great when we had the 40m penalty rule and refs not blowing 6 again every f****** set. This year has been utterly f****** deplorable. If you don’t just agree with everything V’Landys does you might realise the same thing.

Nothings perfect mate, it'll take a little bit for teams and refs to adjust. Most of the games I've watched, I've enjoyed.

I don’t know how you are coming to that conclusion based on history and trends

1. 2021 was the most horrendous year of football in recent memory. If you recall, we had several articles and people on social media bemoaning the quality of those games.
2. In that same year, the quality didn’t improve or adjust, the beatings continued throughout the year so much so that they altered the rules to improve the game.
3. Once they altered the rules, the game improved. The game was still fast but it was significantly more competitive.
4. Despite the game improving and with essentially nobody calling for a return of six agains, V’Landys has decided to go back to the very same rules that made the competition worse

Essentially there was nothing to adjust. The rules were fine and if history shows, the quality isn’t magically going to improve. In fact, it will probably get worse as more and more soft tissue injuries decimate squads.

To regress to those rules makes no sense but to regress to those rules in the middle of a TV negotiation is insanity.

V’Landys needs to go - good on him for what he has done but he has completely lost it.
