I came away from this game feeling exactly this way.

The Panthers were on top form, got ‘the bounce of the ball’ all game (there is definitely an arguement ‘they make their own luck’ though) and got all the 50/50 decisions, and even a few 40/60’s.

We do really struggle against their defence though - the fast (and consistent) line speed, coupled with their Melbourne-esq slowing down of the ruck really knocks us out of our rhythm. They get away with murder in the ruck and are quite happy to give away 6-again after 6-again. These new rules suit their game perfectly. They love long periods of ball in play.

A few of our guys had games to forget - Ramien reminded everyone what we get 75% of the time from him…..

For the most part, we defended well.

We have changed a lot from last year and will take time to put it all together but lots of positives

I wish I shared your optimism.

We may have changed but, as others have pointed out, when we are up against a relentless, rushing defense we revert to the same old, one-out shit that has been a hallmark of our play for years.

So, as usual, we can beat up on the lesser teams.
But when the steaks are higher, and we're up against the big guns, we're just not there.

We can all stand around talking about "if we cut out the dumb mistakes" or "if we show more urgency cleaning up loose balls" or whatever, but we've been saying that for years.
In that regard, we haven't changed one iota.

This is what I was referring to in my thread about "What I Didn't Like" when mentioning being ruthless.
Taking your foot off the pedal and taking short cuts when you're up by 40 against a minnow only serves to breed a culture of complacency.
And that manifests itself in the ill-discipline and unforced errors we saw last night.

Bellamy wouldn't stand for it.
Nor would Wayne, Cleary, Madge, Sticky et al.
Hell, I dare say Benji would be into them about it.

Penrith smothered us and their defence is probably the best in the comp.
Yet we stayed competitive for the majority of the game but just couldn't get through their goal line defence.
They are elite, we are pretty good.
Obviously there a few handling errors and dumb mistakes we need to scrub out but Penrith tends to make you do that.
I think we'll be ok but we're at like 70% potential.
It's also only R2.

That penalty call against Ramien on Jenkins still has me fuming. Yes Jesse was shit and did so many stupid things last night but that one call in particular was horrendous. Jesse literally stood there and Jenkins ran into him on purpose then threw the ball forward knowing it would be pulled back.

Then Klein does the classic square up in the second half so the stats say “nothing to see here”

The 40/20 was just classic Cleary and he does that to everyone so fair enough. Not much we could have done about that. That moment turned the entire game as they scored right after it and then we got simply reffed out of the game, then fell apart. Toby and WK standing around when the ball came free before their third try sent my head to mars. They can both f**k off as far as I’m concerned

But Klein is a blatant f**king cheat and reams us every time we have him. Scum.

Every team cops shit calls. You can’t let that be the deciding factor in a match.
Get on with it.

Simple fact of the matter is we just aren’t good enough.
We’re close, but not top tier, as has been the case for years now.

Yeah it’s only Rd2 but, based on what’s been shown in the trials and the first two rounds, we’re not winning shit this year.

The squad needs evolving and there’s f**k all coming through to facilitate it. Certainly not in the areas it needs it most anyway.
