This Fitz bashing is insane. I am frustrated as much as anyone that we haven't taken the next step but if you said to me 4 years ago that we would make the finals every year, 2 prelims and stay out of the papers for all the wrong things... I am taking that 100/100. Until we aren't considered a top 4 team anymore, i am more than happy with him as the gaffa.

There a couple of Canberra players at the moment who are in reserves but would be an option for outside backs in 2027.
Chevy Stewart, with Ison never being fit, I can't see how he would be worse then Kennedy and adds some speed.
Timoko is the other, he is a right centre, have to be better then Ramien, probably get him a little cheaper

I'd be looking more closely at Riley Jones.
I've not seen a helluva lot of him but the times I have he has impressed me.
Playing right centre, if he has his mind right and knows he has the opportunity to force an issue, well he ,to me, would be the next signing, if he can prove himself.

Yeah, when I put the Jets team sheet up in the teams list thread, that was what I was alluding to as the interest.
I've just got a feeling about him. Also that young bloke we got from Penrith, Harrison Hassett.

Trout now official.
I see Zero Tackle reported that he is the first Englishmen to sign with the Sharks in over 50yrs. Thats not factually correct. We had two English players play for us in the 80’s being Brian Noble (Hooker) and Paul Vannet (Back Rower) ‘Aussie’ Alan Bateman played for us in the 90’s, but he was a Welshman.

This 100%. I think winning in ‘16 created an unrealistic expectation of repeat success in some fans minds. We are punching above our weight consistently given the resources and facilities etc. In the same time we’ve made the semi’s 10 times the Goons have made them once and the Tigers haven’t made them at all.

I keep hearing about all these young backs coming through but don’t see much evidence of anyone beating the door down…. Hope you’re right about Riley Jones. With a few forwards and Jesse likely to move on I’d assume we’d be in the market for one or two players.

There was also Mike Gregory who did a short stint with us in 1987.

From my perspective, Fotzy walked into an already successful club.
We were in the semis pretty much every year of the previous decade - the only exceptions being 2014 and 2021, which was a write off after the Bomber sacking.

On top of that, he inherited a squad with a core group of players who had cleaned up in the lowers and were approaching their peaks in the NRL - WK, Ronnie, Big Sexy, Brit, Brails et al.
Teig was also starting to break into grade.

The foundations were there, and we entrusted him to be able to build upon them and turn us into a powerhouse.

In the time since he's been here, the Jets and Flegg have both performed well and a regularly in the finals.
So the players coming through should be there.

Yes, he's turned us into a reasonably consistent side over that time, but he's had a bit to work with.

Where he falls short is in a number of areas:

- Failure to recognise squad weaknesses and recruit / develop in order to fill them
- Failure to recognise when a player has reached their potential, is on the downslide, and should be eased out
- Failure to instil the hard edge needed to win the big games - the 1 percenters everyone talks about
- Continued acceptance of mediocrity / sub par performances
- Far too rigid in bench rotation, with no thought to match conditions and either capitalising on advantages or trying to stem the tide against us
- A seeming inability, or reluctance, to develop fringe first-graders into full-blown NRL players - Tuku being a prime example

The Nicho situation is obviously a millstone around the club's neck.
Do you think Fotzy's finger prints are not all over that deal?
I doubt he had much say in the monetary side of it, but I can pretty much guarantee he told recruitment something along the lines of "I want him for life".

As well has Nicho played in the Dally M year, that was always a grossly negligent contract.

And so we are in the position we are in now - hamstrung by a monster deal on a guy in a crucial position who, as well as he plays when his forwards allow, just shouldn't be on that sort of money, which limits our ability to chase others.
Not only that, it kind of paints Fotzy into a corner on how and where to play him.
Benchies don't get > 1mio p.a.
And he's not a better fullback option than WK anymore.
And he's certainly not being sent back to Reggies.

So we're stuck with it.

Fotzy is a good coach, but he's not a great coach.
And he's certainly not immune to criticism.

When does Nicho feel bad and give something back either in performance or in the payroll. How he is on that money and BB is in his is criminal.

With Nicho, I think he would be hard to move on, for example I just couldn't see him going to PNG, he used to the soft style at the sharks, where he can cruise around, we all know he won't aim up in the big games, but the coach is happy to have him here.
Look how slow he is now wait till it's 2027, 2028, 2029.

If you want to watch a good running game, someone taking the line on, watch metcalfe tonight.

Hynes had a great running game at Melbourne but that was on the back of Hughes and munster creating ops.

Barry Russell won a Rothmans medal following The Legend Otherwise Known As Gavin Miller around the park and scoring tries.

To get the best out of Hynes you put 6 on his back and he trails forwards through the middle.
He did it at the storm.
Can we not find a forward who can drag a couple in and get an arm loose?

Then whack the 7 jumper on Trindall and say run the side or f**k off. Find some consistency you muppet. You can't be Tarzan against the Titans and Jane against Clearys mob.

What the f**k do we do for 4 months of preseason??????
Coach always talks about going the next step.
...Doing something different.
But then its that shitshow served up over the last 2 weeks???
They might as well have had the summer off, turned up March 1 and picked up from where they left off last year.

Holdsworth. Yaaaaaaaawwwn.

Steve Price. Nuffie. Was here in 2016 when we were the best team eva - but newsflash!!!...Jimmy, Lewie, Gal and Ennis coached the side that year. Yaaaaaaaawwwn.

Fitzy. Great bloke. Very matey. Man's man. Defensive coach.
....Wrestle, grind, drumstick, roll, A man, shoulders in, one high one low, lock up the ball, rinse, repeat, repeat, repeat...
Confesses hes not an attacking coach.
Yaaaaaaaawwwn.

So who looks after our attack?
Who os breaking this week's opponent down and devising tactics on where to go - tactics on who to target?
Who does this??

Who has been responsible for Trickys development over the past 5 years?
- what does that development entail?
..watching Fried Night Footy?
...watching Nathan Cleary on YouTube??
...4 months of preseason - of doing the same thing from last season over and over with Nicho Hynes who knows as much about steering teams to target areas as Sylvester the cat????

Bellamy. Probably in top 3 coaches of all time.
He must know all about attack. Wouldn't need help would he??
Surely not.
Well...
Some names that have been employed as part of his coaching team over the years:
Matt johns
Kevin walters
Cooper cronk
All representative halves.

Robbo. Probably top 6.
The development of Sam Walker is paramount to his club for the next decade.
On his staff?
Cooper Cronk.
To specifically micro manage Walker
..and now - the purchase of the qld SOO captain DCE.

Hear Ye O' Hear Ye fellow Shark supporters be not dismayed at the treading of water of our 6 and 7 who, at too many times, look like they are at sixes and sevens.
Who is who and which is which??

The only consistency is their inconsistency.

We all have to wait till each week's game to see who is playing what role.
Maybe they do as well.
