A new camp commander was appointed and while inspecting the place, he saw 2 soldiers guarding a bench.
He went over and asked the soldiers why they were guarding it.
“We don’t know, the last commander told us to do it, it was some of regimental tradition.
He rang the last commander and asked why were they guarding that particular bench?
“I don’t know, the previous commander had it guarded, so I just kept the tradition going.
So he went back to the other old commanders who all said the same thing, until he found the now 100yo retired general who was the commander 60 years ago.
He asked him about the bench and the tradition behind it?
“What, is the paint still wet”
