Every time I see one take off I'm amazed. After seeing challenger as young bloke I always hold my breath as well.
Awesome hey. Still, the cost for all that fuel alone would have housed and fed a lot of homeless Americans for a while.
What's NASA stand for?
Sorry, that was tasteless.
The first humans to see the dark side (far side) of the moon directly were the Apollo 8 astronauts in December 1968 when they orbited the Moon.
Before humans saw it with their own eyes, the far side was first photographed by the Soviet Luna 3 spacecraft in 1959.
China’s Chang’e-4 made the first soft landing on the far side by using the Queqiao relay satellite to handle communications
From Earth, human's ancestors have never seen the true far side directly for about 6 million years.
Info ChatGPT.

I wonder if an astronaut will land and walk on the far side in our time DOM?

who knows? Talk is the Americans want to land another module on the moon by 2029, but there's not much talk about where. The Chinese want to land by 2030 and create some type of permanent set up.

One fact I heard a day or 2 ago, the appollo 8 mission you mentioned was viewed live by 25% of the world's population and remains the highest rated broadcast ever. Apparently there was a time given when the first pictures of earth from the moon and close ups of the moon would be shown. In 1968 it's likely that 25% of thr population of earth would have access to a TV, so pretty much everyone who had access, watched this regardless of the time of day or night.
