The game has been booming in the last 5 years and the amount of negative comments of X makes me think they are AFL or Union trolls ?
Yeh

As an example There’s a post today from a high profile financial journo who was casting shade at the nrl trying to get this kind of money cause it’s more than afl

Papers like the financial review.

The Vegas thing really got a lot of them triggered. That’s why afl is talking about going to India now and wanting to bring back “internationals”

I’m not a fan of the amount of penalties and six agains but I’m old school

It looks like younger fans like more high scoring games as we have now

Once it gets to more than 50 total points scored I kinda lose interest

But yeh wrestling was awful something had to get done it’s way better now

I be a bit more happier if they didn't have a 6 again as your right once a game gets past 40 or more I'm sort lose interest.
Is Australia going to have a gambling ad ban and if so would that goes problems for NRL and other sports ?

The legislation is weak so probably minimal impact

Something like 3 ads an hour

I’m more worried about the war impacting it our economy is already feeling the pinch

That article was good though looks like bids will be coming in soon and channel ten (paramount) will bid

Ten hasn’t had league since the 1990s they love afl and soccer

Seven might bid for origin and a Monday night game if that’s where the extra game is played each week

Nines pay tv arm will probably also bid against Foxtel

NRL ramps up Super League bid

The NRL’s push to take over the UK-based Super League is about to go to another level.
NRL chief executive Andrew Abdo is heading to the UK to make it happen. The offer won’t be astronomical, but it will involve covering the teams’ salary caps and evening out the playing talent.
The NRL will need someone to run its interests over there. Blake Sollyhas formerly worked in the UK, but he is working in a job he loves as South Sydney chief executive.
There are two reasons the NRL wants to take over the competition: one is to make sure the game is run better and survives; the other is to get subscribers for its NRL game pass. The NRL believes there is a potential million new subscribers for its app in the UK and Europe.
The NRL would also use it as part of its TV rights negotiations, as it would allow it to offer a world-wide deal.

The Panthers might look unbeatable now, but dark clouds are looming

Can’t see them handing over control for 17million pound a year.

merging the nrl game pass and SL+ streaming service would make sense and could see a significant uptake if quality is better than current SL+ service. Though that would then devalue the SL ptv deal.

Maybe the SL current salary cap, both players and clubs, will be raised? That could be the plan if Global Rights are incorporated into the TV deal. This is just a Weirdler snippet, nothing official.

Becoming the entire rugby league world immediately increases size and reach. Also benefits superleague becoming part of NRL instead of being smaller regional product.

He might get $4 billion but over 4 or 5 providers and over 7-8 years. That means you will need to cough up subscription fees to 3-4 of these providers (taking out channel 9) to watch games.

From a business perspective it would be a reason why he is so desperate to get some kind of hold in the USA. Even if he could manage one provider and 200,000 subscribers there, it would provide a subsidy to cover some revenue and cost here.

If he can get $150mill out of fta he’s done well, can we really see ptv paying $650mill a year? How do they make money off that unless subscription fees go up massively?

Well $4 billion over 8 years is $500 million a year. If channel 9 pay $100 million of this, this leaves $400 million to be paid between another 3-4 providers. If the $4 billion is net, then take off any revenue received from NZ and other overseas providers. I did edit my original post, so you may not have seen it, he knows if he can get some sort of following in USA and even if he found one provider at 150000 subs, that brings the ask back for local providers.

The talk in this latest article is 4 Billion over 5 years ….

Firstly .,it’s from Peter Badel who I wouldn’t trust as far as I can throw him,,. It’s very short on any speculation on who is bidding what to drive up the price to these levels so Im taking it with a grain of salt …

PVL has also said a couple of times in the past that he isn’t going to have the games on over multiple streaming platforms … I would be surprised if that is going to change this time

That is what he will be pushing for but reality will be different.

To get the kind of money he wants, he will need to split it up and over a longer period of time.

Channel 9 may even pay a bit extra and split their bids over Stan and Channel 9. We possibly could see Super Saturday on Fox and Stan Sundays.
