Look at the who we play this week.

There is why the story is out, PNG doesn't even have the village the players will stay at built yet.

A player is going to want to know how that works 1st. So we are months away from players being at that stage
Some won't give a f**k and just want the cash. I'd jump at it if I was a young single bloke.

Key word being young, single bloke.

Martin has a 5 month old, even a 2 year deal from 2028. Means his child is starting school either home schooled or in a 3rd world country.

I have no doubt you will get some interest depending on the circumstances

Mitch Kenny is definitely just thinking about all the new birds he can go and look at over there

He is the sort of player who would be perfect for PNG. Single man, middle of the road in his position.

Instead of getting $400k here. Go there for $600k, no tax, no rent. Can add new birds to look at.

Time frame makes sense.

Why wouldn't Martin take a huge pay rise from the Dragons for example though? Players like him have no need to take their kids in their formative years to a 3rd country.

So I don't doubt he will look around and may leave, not sure PNG will sign anyone of note

Don’t believe everything you read about PNG, I lived there, in a gated community, for 12 months with my family, while we were setting up an office. They loved it, learnt heaps and had an absolute ball.

Don’t get me wrong, there are extremely dangerous parts, but they are very easy to avoid.

It’s a very high paid adventure

Exactly.

If you are someone like Martin or Cleary you can get a huge unlikely. Especially after hearing him speak about his mum this week.

Has her cancer returned....it kinda sounded that way in a sound bite.

We have a good number of players off contract. I think Weidler was looking for column space personally. None can officially talk till after Nov 1. Martin has changed management company to the same that Yeo, Cleary's have.

Yes he may go.......we all realise that. We will know more after Nov 1.

I totally agree. His closeness to family also makes me think Weidler was looking for column inches.

The accomodation will be an entire little community with shops and schools, I assume the school would be good, there was a story about it. I was sceptical of png at first but assuming the community is something like what I saw in that story I think plenty of players will consider it even with families for tax free contracts, for a couple years it’s certainly a good financial benefit .

Marto makes the garner resigning fit if he’s told them he’s interested in png they want garner to stay.

I am glad it was good for you.

The reality of an NRL wag. Is the players are never around. Every 2nd week PNG will play away.

Thurs-Sunday or something the wife and kids are left with no support network. It is a tough carry

On the rumour .I can see Keene being interested in a big pay as he is not on huge money .
Martin on the other hand is and not sure he would want to make a massive move being a country boy
The offers would mean giving big money to a hooker and back rower .Not sure how the rocks there salary cap given they still need a half and fullback

I don’t think it would be a hard carry at all. We had amazing accommodation, basically a tropical resort, an amazing school etc.

I wasn’t being supported by the NRL.

Living away from family was the only real tough part and we were far less supported then these players will be.

You'd think they'll look at 2 home games then 2 away in Sydney or Brisbane where possible. Rotate that as much as possible and the Chiefs stay in those cities. Good chance to cut the travel and see family.

When you say dangerous, how dangerous in comparison to Australia?

Think of it like that. Just a bit worse.

Its a broken nation by Western standards. Has its issues. You can't just go anywhere you want.

RL players will live in a bubble. The NRL and our government will pump money into it to make it as liveable as possible for players and families.

Long history behind it. At one point we held ownership over PNG land but that is wrapped up in colonialism.
