I hear it all the time, hard to find when you're looking for it though.

Wait until there's the game at the new sold out stadium in Christchurch, then Wellington, then Origin in Auckland..

I was referring to then coming in before Perth and PNG … that is not what is happening..clearly

I want Christchurch to come in … should be a no brainer … but I suspect Brisbane and the QRL is going to be trouble

I don't see them as trouble, I see them as important leverage to get the best out of NZ2.

There is another “AFL threat “ story doing the rounds of the Sunday Brisbane paper …we see it every few months when they want to talk up Brisbane 3… this time it’s Shane Richardson doing the QRL’s bidding

Unfortunately it’s not great news for NZ2, as they don’t have the same voice as the QRL ..
Gees... if I had a dollar for every time I've heard the "AFL threat" bogeyman argument used to push for "just one more Brisbane NRL team", I'd just about have my mortgage paid off.

The AFL thing is a bit of a red herring … Team 20 will come down to self interest, internal politics and money … you might be able to guess who is likely to win that one

If real B3 talk ever gets serious, I wonder how well that's going to be received by the Broncos, Dolphins and GC...

they have done a 180 on that since everyone makes money from the NRL handouts these days … Qlders stick together and they want more NRL teams

You might be right. So has Richo been recruited by Ikin? What's the story there? I can't connect the dots. That article is pay walled

The full article is in the Brisbane 3 thread … Richo is a Qlder at the end of the day … they stick together like I said

O, I didn't know he was a Queenslander.
I know, I'm a Queenslander, Titans fan actually.
As a Queenslander, I'd love to see the Dolphins become a powerhouse and obviously the Titans!

Neither side has bedded in yet, it would be very stupid to undermine them in this period.

yeah he is a Qlder originally … even though he has worked at 4 Sydney clubs as an administrator

Any 20th team coming into the comp, should be at the beginning of a tv deal, somewhere in the early 2030's. Like when PNG comes in 2028, we might have to wait another five years for team 20 to be admiited.

No. Richo is simply giving his opinion on what he thinks about re: SE QLD market and its future prospect with another NRL team.

It should be noted that Richo is and always will be a staunch East Tigers man. The fact he sees the value in Easts and Ipswich Jets coming together commercially, to service the booming western run from Ipswich (Goodna) to Dalby (via. Toowoomba) and beyond is common sense feasibility and merited chat.

These chats are nothing new. They’ve been discussed in the Brisbane 3 thread a number of times including tidbits of insider thinking towards it all. Further to that, while Ben Ikin and QRL are championing for a Jets NRL club servicing Ipswich and beyond but they are not the people behind it. There is no real benefit in Richo being recruited by QRL.

Richo’s opinion is borne from his time spent spearheading Firehawks bid and the incredibly last and late minute decision to go ahead and amalgamate Brisbane Jets (Jets/Bombers) & FireHawks bids together which never made headlines (and never went beyond verbal approvals) as it was too little, too late and Dolphins were already awarded the license (but it just hasn’t been formally announced to public).

This time Richo knows, as I know - that for it to be successful this next Jets bid needs to start strong with Easts and Jets together and not wait until the sun has already set to agree to do what made complete sense to begin with.

Now this isn’t me saying that those clubs are pushing ahead together at this moment but it’s what’s been discussed in the background (or at least had been discussed the last time I checked in which was months ago).

I really like the idea of the Jets, it's a good brand and it's a growing area of the city, I actually preferred the Easts bid until it was the Firehawks as a innter city rivalry but Firehawks is just a terrible brand imo, I was literally living in East Brisbane during this period.
It's a yes from me for Brisbane Jets but there's 2 things that are in the path to a Brisbane Jets inclusion imo:
1: Both Titans and Dolphins need their time in the Sun
2: NZ needs another team asap!

More jobs and thousands of visitors a year = more leverage
You saying this doesn't make it so, it's just leverage, rugby has leverage too as I explained above. Losing a test match to Dunedin because the stadium is giving favourable terms to NZ2 is actually a big deal to Chch. Would NZR do this, it doesn't seem likely, but if NZ2 is playing at near capacity because of cheap tickets, and the Crusaders are at half capacity then they might think about.

What the NRL does offer is a longer season. In SR, each team plays 14 games, seven at home. The final is in late June.

Crusaders could play up to ten home matches, which includes hosting three finals games. Also SR has their own magic round at.....Christchurch stadium.

Meanwhile in the NRL, each team currently plays 24 games, 12 at home. Warriors could have up to 14 at home, which would include two finals games. A prelim final could be played in late September. The same could apply with a new team in Christchurch.
There would also be at least one test a year, and 5 or so NPC matches.

During the league/rugby season the ground will be well used. Might even spur Auckland into building a new stadium that both codes can share.

Brisbane3 team 21 in 2033 after NZ2 in 2030.

Then pause for a while until late 2030’s with adelaide as team 22.
