Holbrook appreciation thread

Id like to see McEwen stick his tackles more. He makes solid contact but does get bumped more often than Id like to see. Against the Dogs it was particularly bad and they spotted him up because of it.

If he can improve that, which he looked to do yesterday, he'll be a great backrower

I also thought Fletcher Sharpe's comments after the game were a slight on AOB too. We're a happy bunch and we've got a guy at the top who is not lost, and has some answers.

Once again, we could capitulate and it wouldn't surprise me, but I'll enjoy this encouraging ride for as long as it lasts.

The place couldn’t have been fun last year.

Holbrook has us humming. Previous incarnations would have us throwing away games with an injury, let alone being a top 8 team - or a top 2 team!

Great piece of recruitment.

Yet who can forget the outrage when I suggested Elliot , Dsaf, Braily, and Hetherington were plod and a waste of cap space ! The shit kicked up over my suggestion to punt in particular Elliot was mind blowing. hahaha .....but "but his fantasy points"

What a funny irrational place a football forum is.

I don’t think that many people were upset about losing those blokes, I think there were people disappointed to lose KPP or rather that we never really got to see KPP play to his potential. In terms of the guys we let go I was more disappointed to lose the younger guys over the years like Kiraz, Sisagi, Toa, Keeley, Max Bradbury and Chris Veaila.

Max is playing QLD Cup now? I really thought he was the one we’d regret losing.
Yep, he looked unstoppable in juniors but I don’t think he’s grown much from when he was 16 tbh, just benefitted from being the biggest kid.

Sisagi is the one I always thought was going to be good. Hope he come home one day.

I've been impressed with Saulo recently too. Great effort plays and is hitting the line a bit harder in attack.

Such a common tale in juniors and one many scouts still to this day fail to recognise. Attitude and work ethic are what the good judges look at in young RL players

I think attitude and work ethic can be moulded, we apparently rejected Latrell Mitchell from Harold Mats squad for this reason. IMO attitude and work ethic matter but what probably matters more is instincts, leg speed/mobility/agility and power to weight ratio.

Many experts been saying we got lucky to play against team who weren't in form this year. The Doggies beat the Panthers. Raiders look good today. Cowboys are flying. Manly look revived recently. I think we aren't getting enough credit?

That’s fine. I’m happy to go under the radar. Lots of talk about our game this week and mostly I’ve just heard how good the Tigers are going.

What I'm saying is talent alone isn't good enough especially when that talent is simply being the big kid

15 years ago today, it was announced that the great coach Wayno would be coming to Newcastle (came up on my FB memories).
15 years!
Are we closer to a premiership now than we were then?
