The pride of Goodna. He is the absolute face of Ipswich rugby league and the first player any local franchise would sign.

Who writes this stuff?

You could probably pick the fumble troll quite easily as well just by looking at posts..

Please I have been on this forum longer than you. I used to be positive about expansion - go and read the back and forth on Team 18. I was a really strong advocate for Perth and for another NZ team at the time.

The problem I see is that the gaps are getting wider and if the gap is already wide then expansion is going to make it worse.

I can't see clubs "falling by the wayside" happening because a) the NRL grant typically keeps teams afloat, b) the NRL tends to bail out teams that hit choppy waters (with few - if any - strings attached.. certainly not a relication condition) and c) the NRL has no appetite for annoying an existing team's fanbase.

At a stretch MAYBE a relocation of a team. Maybe. If the club itself steps in that direction (any NRL strong-arming wouldn't go down well). But not a club dropping out.

You are probably right. I am just looking at the on field stuff. I am also looking at the possibility that there are going to be a whole stack of sides that are going to be fastened to the bottom and the middle. The game is obviously stacked with money and flying off the field which is great but it is not translating to on the field. I also don’t see how it is going to improve.

Yes way more subtle than most

way too much effort though not like Pvl is going to read his posts and think I’m going to stop expanding and cementing league as the number one sport

fumblers have 19 teams and draw players only from under half of Australia

league has a bit over half, plus nz, png and the pacific islands

so on his argument the afl should have eight teams

He is not going to notice you glazing him either. He isn’t going to let you hit it bro.

There is also only one of us that has ever been a fan of AFL. Do you want me to find that post?

i think with how we lost bears fans and they only coming back now proves cutting teams is a dumb idea.
@Colk honest question but are you even a rugby league fan? your ideas indicate you want the game to die.

I am a fan and that’s why I am critical. There are a whole bunch of us out there.

I remember (vaguely because I was very young) the problems that we had from the mid to late 90’s. Do we really want teams in a competition that will only win one or two games a year and otherwise get flogged every week (Cowboys, Crushers, Magpies for example). That was also a time where we had much better halves and more skill present. I’m seeing us going down that road and it is worrying.

The way to increase player depth is expansion. See superleague era

You can’t have two teams in the comp called the Tigers …so bad luck Easts .. get behind the Jets like your man Richo says
Queensland Cup has two teams called the Seagulls in Tweed Heads and Wynnum Manly so it could work. If Easts are to push for an NRL licence it'll be interesting to see if they use the Firehawks nickname again or decide to opt for something else.

The real way to do it is improve the development layers and development coaching credentials

The key layer missing is a U23 layer for players too old for U21s but not ready for Reserve Grade in the professional pathways

And of course for Qld NRL clubs to join these professional pathways

instead of queensland nrl clubs why not just merge the 2 comps qrl and nswrl entirely and have the regional clubs still there...

There is still a valid place for the part-time rugby league pathway

Statewide Qld Cup full fills this

A statewide NSW-RMC would do the same

If you're not ready for reserve grade at 21... I'll pass
