Mergers only work

When everything is going well and a bed of roses both on and off the field but when things get tough on the field and performance and results start to slide watch those old grievances resurface and rise to the surface.

calls for decoupling grow louder and louder with one side claiming that the other isn’t pulling their weight and are dragging the team down etc.

Any club can get pulled-down into factional in-fighting, it doesn't take a joint venture structure to accomplish that - just a decent spell of poor form (especially if that also means declining finances).. Parramatta fans will attest to that.

The real issue with joint venture teams is that there's often a difference in ideas on how to climb out of the cellar.

What eventually happens with a turn-around plan is a compromise that neither side totally buys into - whereas with a battle between factions in a non-JV club will eventually come to a head & one faction vanquishes the other and gets on with THEIR plan - rightly or wrongly.

In fighting at a club is exacerbated and double the trouble when that club is a joint venture club.

it’s really just a ticking time bomb just waiting to go off as sporting success is cyclical in nature.

You are wrong and you are also stupid because you do not even know the difference between a joint venture and a merger.

Anyone with half a brain realises that the Tigers need to focus on the South West and the Dragons need to focus on the Illawarra region. Doesn't mean 100% but a lot more than both are currently doing atm.

We’ll never see another merger … so yes they don’t really work in such a tribal, self interested sport like Rugby League but secondly it’s a bit of a moot point IMO..

Any de-merger means one more teams & basically takes a potential expansion spot with little to no widening of the NRL's footprint.

What's eventually happened with the Northern Bears is a better de-merger outcome for the NRL with Norths (or at least the brand) going to Perth.. maybe something like that could be good, but not played out over 2 decades like the Bears saga was.

Thanks for the quality, in depth analysis, who are you working for?

Please keep things close to your chest

Could have worked if it wasn't shotgun weddings.

It appears their identity is literally 'identity crisis' which is f**king wild when there are 30 year olds who literally cannot remember them as stand alone entities.

Thank you Rupert Murdoch I can't wait for it to finally happen. Super League a dormant virus that comes back to haunt us every now and again.
