If the Warriors were to have one game a year at Eden Park, why not ANZAC day against a big club? I could see them potentially filling it.

Perhaps Union have something on Anzac Day at Eden Park and the ground booked? Don’t follow Union so I don’t know, just guessing.

Funnily enough all the Super Rugby games this ANZAC weekend are in Christchurch to christen the new stadium.

And Wahs playing Dolphins in Wellington (which I am looking forward to, should be a good crowd given the last time we got a game here was R1 2023 before the whole "Up The Wahs" movement had started)

Just bought tickets for the Wellington game, very few left (under 1000).

Broncos sell out Campbelltown...

I got a story about that...

In 2014, my dad was diagnosed with cancer, I didn't know how it was going to go.

My then 3.5 year old son never met him, so I quit my job and flew me and my son to Sydney

I wanted to take in a RL game. I'm an Eels fan, dad's a Rabbitohs fan.

The previous game at Campbelltown vs the Cowboys got 6,500.

"Yeah dad, it's Campbelltown. No one shows up"

16,500 show up.

We couldn't even get 3 seats in a row in GA, my son had to sit on my lap.

It was a good night, I've had a fond spot for Campbelltown stadium ever since

Wests Tigers ask fans to stand to boost Campbelltown Stadium capacity for Broncos clash
Get on your feet Wests Tigers fans – it’s standing room only. Literally.

Wests Tigers are planning to cram up to 2000 extra fans into a bulging Campbelltown Stadium for Saturday night’s NRL blockbuster against reigning premiers Brisbane to accommodate surging interest in the high-flying joint venture.
The club will ask supporters on the stadium’s eastern and western hill areas to stand rather than sit, enabling another 1300 fans into the big game.

And another 500 spots will become available given Channel 9 – whose commentary team use a large marquee on the hill – won’t be covering the game.

Wests Tigers management believe asking fans to stand for a Saturday night game, kicking off at 7.35pm, is a reasonable request.

The club wouldn’t consider asking fans to stand on the hill for a Sunday afternoon game, given officials consider that timeslot family friendly.

The extra room will push the ground capacity past 17,000. Wests Tigers’ 42-22 win over Newcastle at Campbelltown on Sunday pulled a crowd of 15,221.

The crowd surge continues a wave of momentum for a Wests Tigers side remarkably sitting equal first alongside Penrith on the NRL competition table after six rounds.

“There was a lot of people seated on the hill (against Newcastle),” said Wests Tigers chief executive Shaun Mielekamp.

“We will ask everyone to stand up, which is more appropriate on a Saturday night than on a Sunday afternoon for families.

“So we can maximise our opportunities on the hill, we will need people to stand as we can get as many people into the ground as we can for what will be a blockbuster match.

“It’s a little bit different (to the Newcastle game) but we will get a bigger crowd and are definitely expecting a sellout. Our aim is to get 17,000.

“Because it’s not a Channel 9 game, we will also be able to get another 400 to 500 people in through the extra space on the hill because we don’t have those broadcast requirements.

“Internally, everyone is really focused on making sure that this weekend is the best game we have had at Campbelltown. There is still lot of work to do but we are really excited to get 17,000 at Campbelltown.”

Wests Tigers have won four from five games this season and have secured three successive victories over Warriors, Parramatta and Newcastle.

The infighting and drama among the club’s board during summer seems long forgotten.
Wests Tigers will start the game as $1.55 favourites, according to TAB, with Brisbane the $2.45 outsiders.

“There’s no doubt it has been a great start to the season but we want to keep focused on the here and now and use all the old cliches about ‘one game at a time’,” Mielekamp said

“(Winning four from five) is a great place to be and those that have been around successful clubs know how important it is to get that balance right. You can’t bottle (excitement) but can’t totally let it off the leash.

“We want to keep everyone focused on doing what did to get us going well – that’s really important.”

After Sunday’s 42-22 win over Newcastle, Wests Tigers skipper Api Koroisau said: “We’re a new team this year and we have standards we want to hold. We can win games, but there is also work to do behind the scenes.

“It’s been hard times in the past and obviously we started the season off well."

When is the Campbelltown and leichardt upgrade happening?

I think currently Wests have a good mix of 4 games at CommBank, 4 at leichardt and 4 at Campbelltown.

I think that should continue even with the upgrades. Games against parra and bulldogs at the very least should be at the bigger venue.

Maybe one more extra game at Campbelltown and one less at leichardt in the long run.

next year LO is closed for renovations..the following year Campbelltown ..

they have committed playing games at both stadiums until 2041

l agree the current mix is a good one .. they get the bigger rival games at Commbank …

but I think the plan is to eventually end up with a 7/3 split at Campbelltown and LO and the Easter Monday Parra game at Commbank or Accor…

they got to start pushing Campbelltown hard..

Absolute bullshit they cap capacity at 17k. You can easily fit 20k in there still. There was plenty of space on both hills last week for another 2000 people.

I’m certainly no expert on the ground …haven’t been there in years ..

However they are talking about fitting in an extra 2,000 next week .. they only had 15k there on Sunday

I think what people forget is that 20 years ago when the Tigers won the comp, they were averaging 18,800 which was very much restricted by stadium capacities.

The population of Sydney has grown 1.3 million in that same space of time. If you assume Tigers support grew at the same inflation rate, their peak success crowd average would now be the equivalent of around 25,000. In reality, it's somewhere between 19,000 to 25,000.

My gut feeling -- with sustained success, you're going to see a lot of fans locked out of both grounds in the future, even after the upgrades.

Yep 20k for Campbelltown is not enough if they want to play the majority of their games there in the long term.

Unless it’s 25k I think they should still play all their rivalry games at CommBank or Accor which is about 4 games, then 5 at Campbelltown and 3 at Leichhardt.

Their main priority is getting the sustained success to begin with

They need to push that Campbelltown region .. they have been criticised in the past for neglecting the West … thats their medium term juniors and long term supporter base …

Playing more games there will help … not more games at Commbank 50 Kms away … play against the Dogs and Parra there sure …but they won’t necessarily get a bigger crowd there when they are playing an out of town team or even some Sydney teams ..Parra got a shit crowd there against the Titans on a beautiful Sunday afternoon
