Rumours and Stuff

He was good last year and we needed an experienced middle.
erroneous on all counts.

If we re-sign Paulo it will confirm my theory that he is the biggest problem at our club. Paulo is a massively popular figure in our club and across the NRL. But popularity doesn't win footy games.
He is a plodder and is completely uninspiring for younger forwards.

Look, it was only for 1 year and we never expected this level of carnage. His usefulness was prolly only supposed be in the first half of the year, off the bench. Plus his presence around the dressing room.

Im sure that was the plan. Eye balls rolling

Agreed one year contract and wasnt expected to play consistent regular footy as evident by him playing only one game before dropped while the squad was healthy. Still would have some good insight into the game for the younger guys as well.

Do you know if he was an attack or defense coach? I also wouldn't mind Flanagan if he gets sacked.
He was broncos defensive and forwards coach.

He'll be the QLD assistant more than likely this year under Slater.

I know Hannay was keen to have him last year before he re-signed with Broncos so i think that would be his likely destination next year as it means not having to uproot his family

Whilst it is good to promote talented young players, I think we need to have a core leadership group of mentally tough players to complement them.

Players of the calibre of Yeoh, Grant, Martin, Preston etc. Plus an intimidator type to put some grunt into our forward pack.

Who in our side would you classify as mentally tough? Closest I can think of is Smith and Russell. That is how far behind this playing group is.

Yeah this.

His chase to collision wasn't wrong but as the players got older but the personnel didn't change as well as bringing in more oldies - they couldn't do it effectively anymore.

I reckon with the new 6 agains, BA would struggle even more.

The biggest thing I didnt really like about BA was he wouldn't really seek the advice of others - when I couldn't see it on the field if he did.
I think he probably did and around 2019-2022 he probably got great advice. The problem is when things didn’t eventuate I think he went back to the same people (highly likely the senior members in team) and it’s not an authentic look at the problem.

On the flip side it’s reported that Ryles fields advice from all over the place and so far this season we’re a f**ken rabble.

Have we ever hit this level of dismay and essentially written off the season before Round 7?

When the inevitable plays out this Sunday, and again the following week away at Manly, we’ll be sitting at 2–6 — exactly where we were in 2018 when we picked up the spoon.
I wrote us off after Round 3 in 2024 when Moses got injured. I even predicted he'd never play another game with BA as coach of the club.

It was also pretty clear after 6 rounds last year we were going nowhere.
