Dear friends

It has been a while. This club causes me too much pain.

I have it on excellent authority that Flanno will be sacked on Tuesday. Willie Talau to come in as caretaker.

Objective View
Nice to see you post again OV.

I really hope your mail is on the money.

It really seems like the logical thing to do.

I hope it happens...

Fair dinkum I can’t understand the pile on of Drinkwater. He is exactly what we need in today’s game. Sure he has some mistakes in him but we have that now in spades with Gutho & Sloan. However his attacking ability is right up there with the best. I’m sure some on here would complain if we signed Walsh because he has mistakes in his game.
If he doesn’t sign we’re still in the same situation next year & likely without Sloan as a backup.
Opinions about a potential million dollar signing is a pile on now is it? Unbelievable

Drinkwater is a desperation signing on big money he couldn't command from any other team. Dumb recruitment especially without knowing who our next coach will be, who he wants in his squad and how he wants to play. Good player but also very bad when he is off and that's half the time
Exactly, there's 30 players to spend just over 11 million on and people think we should commit 10% of that amount on one player who is rocks and diamonds. As Gus Gould would say, No No No No No No!

Maximus, possm is always enthusiastic about change, which I appreciate.

Since when is Dufty "change"? He doesn't have an NRL contract, hasn't played a game in the NRL for 4 years, is 30 years old and is a known quantity who wasn't good enough the first time he was with us. But not signing him to be starting fullback is apparently proof of how stupid Flanagan is.

There's a lot to criticise Flanagan for. Not signing Matt Dufty is not one of them.

Why sign a player on huge fullback dollars, then play him out of position and switch an existing member of the squad to fullback?

We'd be much better off giving Atko a run at fullback now or alternatively Val, keep the spare $3 million over 3 years for some more promising and consistent players.

We're dropping our pants at Drinkwater but any cows supporter will tell you that he is hit and miss. If you think of the fullbacks in the comp currently, Drinkwater would be mid tier when ranking them all, he is nowhere near on the same skill level as Walsh, Edwards, Ponga, Hammer etc.
In fact you could make a case that younger fullbacks like Iongi, Tuapiki and Faalogo are ahead of him. Drinkwater is not even a rep fullback is he?

We've learnt our lesson from the Gutho signing and I'm sure you would've cheered that one a couple of years back as well, let's not throw a million bucks a season at someone who isn't worth that.
Faalogo days at starting fullback for the Storm is on VERY shaky grounds, they know that if he is the last line of defence it is a certain try for the opposition. I've never seen a worse, one on one, defender playing Fullback.
He makes Sloan (& previously Dufty) look like Billy Slater, Bellamy values defence far greater than attack.

I'd say our spending on our spine should be about 4m.
And we should have 5 marquee players in the top 17, averaging 1m each. Get that right and we will ver quickly turn things around.

In my view, our top 30 squad of players should be extremely fit all season. That get them extremely fit and keep them extremely fit for the whole season. New fitness staff please.

It’s all so tough to take. I genuinely thought we would be improved from last year with the kids a year older and tougher. But 6 losses tells a story.

I know the stats say our forwards are doing a decent job but I’m not seeing much in the way of line breaks and second phase play to hurt the opposition defence. For that we need an onfield leader and KK can’t come soon enough.
I think we miss Klemmer’s aggression and I’m still surprised we didn’t give him another year. Maybe superleague just paid him too much?

Stewart is obviously genuine quality and the Couchies are coming along ok, decent first graders. But we need more from them. I think they have the skills to make a difference.

There’s really nothing to say about our back line that hasn’t been said already so I wont.

I’m trying to low-key my emotions because it’s been so hard but a win today would make my week.

Short term sugar hit imo.

A win won't achieve anything except perhaps fuel more stagnation.

Another loss should force their hand to act and make some much needed changes both in coaching and football department.

I never want to see the Dragons lose but I'm not sure winning today is necessarily a good thing.

Essentially, I think I what would really make my week is some decisive action from Tuesdays meeting like replacing Haran and installing Willie Talau as interim coach asap...

The breaks used to come when our halves passed to an edge forward who had a hole to run through, or when our edge forward was put one-on-one with opposition halves or outside backs. This idea of tackling 1-4, with our edge forwards turning in or our middle forwards running one off up the middle, is an ineffective and flawed attacking plan.

Drinkwater on a million bucks a year is madness. Rocks and diamonds if ever there was one.
