please show me a link where RL ratings have fallen by 22% like unions has.
if im wrong fine, but right now thats just BS. what ive read is that unions numbers have fallen, but the league is doing quite well, outrating the S14 on some occasions.
You ask for a link then say "from what i have heard"???? There are no links the Legaue ratings arent published anywhere. The FACT is League has been taken off the main SKY tv sports channel, the ONLY free to air game is on late night. If ratings were that good why would SKY do that???
the warriors crowds and ratings are quite good.
The crowds are rising slowly, that i a good thing. The ratings nobody knows.
last time round Sanzar offered many more games to keep the S14 contract from falling, a tactic theyll use again. this wont help when the nrl salary cap goes up by a lot and the warriors can pay much more money whilst unions money is stagnant.
oh i agree european union clubs will raid nz, this will only weaken the local competition. but a more cashed up NRL will also be in a position to play a part too.
Crap... it doesnt matter who much it goes buy. It still wont be enough to come anywhere near the European money.
david gallop has said wellington, central coast and perth are all being looked at for future expansion.
a 2nd strong nrl side in nz would see RL start to reach critical mass in nz
And David Gallop has never paid lip service to anything before??? The Reds are a cert, central cost maybe, Wellington not a chance. you are also assuming it will be a success.

having a proper national league would be a start...not a 2nd NRL side
mate this won't happen. Even the national rugby union competition is about to collapse, or be downgraded to amateur status. NZ simply isn't big enough to sustain its own professional competition

And I don't really see the point tbh. Australia and NZ are so close geographicaly, so as long as Australia want us to be part of the best league competition in the world, we would be mad to turn them down!

What NZ rugby league needs to focus on is pushing hard for a second team in the NRL. Continue to point out all the benefits a second NZ team would bring, not only for NZRL, but for the NRL in general.

Once this happens, we will have competition for union in both Auckland and Wellington. This will give more of the population a choice between union and league...

no there was an article on the Warriors outratings the S14 fairly recently.

if the nrl isnt shown in nz on sky, why the hell do they pay over $8 million kiwi each week to televise it.

why wouldnt a 2nd nrl side be a success. with a budget of $15 million and loads of kiwi players in league now, of course it will do well.

and i didnt say from what ive heard, but what ive read.

since you couldnt provide any links to back your claims, ill take it as BS until you do

the NZRL need to be run more professionally as well, they are a joke.

more development officers in NZ, more access into the schools is needed as well.

a 2nd side will mean more media for the game,

and a larger salary cap in RL will ensure the best rugby players will be in league

the nrl is simply that good a product that union cant compete as a spectacle, even union in nz

Cool.. where is it? where is the link? i cant find any league ratings articles anywhere.

Can you not read????? its on SKY SPORTS 2... only available to Digital subscribers... which is about 60% of 45% of the popluation or just over quarter of the population. and only the warriors are on FTA played very late at night.

why wouldnt a 2nd nrl side be a success. with a budget of $15 million and loads of kiwi players in league now, of course it will do well.
Who will fund it? the mythical belgium based English billionare? if its based in Wellington, how will they get good crowd figures when no games can be played at night? there is a hell of a lot of work needed before a 2nd team can go in.

and i didnt say from what ive heard, but what ive read.
Great.. brilliant... those link were?

I will... right after you do.

you said NRL ratings were falling like RU. you made the claim, back it up.

atm its just BS.

im not fussed where the warriors are shown, the large TV deal Sky pay for the coverage indicates a happy broadcaster. something the broadcasters of the S14 most certainly are not

absolutely agree that the NZRL need to get their act together. The guys that run the show don't seem to be the smart, bold, forward thinking people that are essential in moving rugby league forward in this country... they just seem content with what is atm, and it has been that way for too long. The admin need to be far more proactive. We all know how good a spectacle rugby league is. The general public in NZ are appreciating the game more and more... it really shouldn't be that hard to sell the product.

This year there is a Wellington secondary school's comp being held, which is a very exciting, and vital step in the right direction. Up until now, school kids haven't even had an option with regards to which sport they would prefer to play (at least in Wellington)! This is ridiculous, and so I am glad they are doing something about it.

The comp will run at the end of the rugby season, which will allow kids that play union to be involved...

So thats a no, you have no idea how the ratings are... mine is supposition based on the fact that League coverage is dimishing.. something they wouldn't do if ratings were good.

What evidence do you have that they are going well?

if the nrl put the time and effort into NZ, the rewards would be massive.

there are any number of very talented Kiwi kids playing the game at junior level, not just the warriors but every nrl club. with such a large number of players, another home grown team is a must.

look at Bledisloe. RL could have something very similar and the game would make millions off it.

it all comes down to money, the next lot of TV deals should put the nrl in a very strong position vs the S14, and then youll see lots of progress for the game in nz.

after the contribution of the All Golds to RL in australia, it would be good for australia to pay that debt back by helping the game become massive in nz.

Just as i thought... you have got nothing....

If the ratings are so good why have the games been moved to a chanal that the vast majority of people dont have?

Te Kaha, I dont know the first thing about NZ ratings, but I can tell you that basing somethings ratings on what channel is shown is flawed - case in point the NRL in Australia.

Up until 2 years ago the NRL was shown on fox sports 1, but then in 2007 was moved to a new channel which was not available to all subscribers (fox sports 3) despite having 19 of the top 20 rating shows from 2006. Why do you think they did this? To increase subscriptions - they moved their star player to a new channel in an effort to increase the amount of people who would upgrade their subscription service. If they moved any other sport or show they knew that they wouldn't get as many people upgrading.

Another point against your argument is politics. A case in point for this example is the Melbourne Storm. When televised live in Melbourne the Storm out-rated 2nd string movies/old sitcoms, but due to the AFL having such a strong influence on the media in Melbourne the sport is only ever televised at a reasonable hour when it's the finals, despite the success it's had when given an opportunity, yet the people of Melbourne are continually subjected to the 2nd rate movies/old sitcoms because someone high up is obviously abusing their power for personal preferences.

No they arent, the NRL is on Sky sport 2, Only about 45% of the population have sky, of that only 60% have Digital. On free to air the only game that is played is th Warriors and that is late at night. The treament of League is shabby to say the least. Do you think they would do that if it rated as well as you seem to think?

Where are you getting your figures from out of interest?

If the ratings are so good why have the games been moved to a chanal that the vast majority of people dont have?

The NRL has always been on SS2 whilst the super14 is on hasn't it? This is very simply down to the fact that there is more NZ involvement in the S14 and so it takes preference.

It is a similar scenario with the netball as well I reckon. They put that on ss1 because it is a true trans-tasman competition, so there is more NZ interest. This is a pretty stupid reason though, because I remember reading in the paper that the ratings for the opening round of the netball averaged 29,000...

There is some pretty disgraceful programming that goes on though. I think super14 even gets put on ss1 over the international cricket. This will probably change if the super14 continues to get poor ratings...

the numbers i read for the NRL in NZ were around the 160,000 - 180,000 mark on Sky, and that they beat some S14 games at the same time
