Just heard that the Western Top deck will not be opened for Origin one, due to poor sales.

Has this been the case in previous years, ??

How many seats approx are in the top Western deck?

If that's the case, that's extremely poor if they have to do that. This game should be a sell-out, regardless. They might as well have taken the first game to the Telstra Dome in Melbourne, or played it at the Sydney Football Stadium.

But, given the NSW team that's been announced, I can understand why ANZ Stadium won't get 83,500 ppl to the game.

crowd attendance figures at ANZ Stadium for S.O.O, when NSW has hosted the first game of the series:

2000: 61,511
2002: 55,421
2004: 68,344
2006: 72,773 (only hosted one game that year)

And no, if they do close off the top-deck on Western Side, I don't think that's ever happened before. If they do go ahead with it, they'll be very lucky to get 70,000 ppl.

Id say about 20 k in top western, maybe half closed is stretching it, but at this stage it looks as though they are expecting 60k or less.

Which is pretty piss poor; recent figures below from rleague.com

Games at Olympic Stadium

2007 76924
2006 72773
2005 82389
2004 82487
2004 68344
2003 79123
2002 74842
2002 55421
2001 70249
2000 58767
2000 61511
1999 88336

They should give tickets away to junior footy clubs around Sydney to make sure they fill the stadium.

Surprised no one learnt their lesson based on just 6,000 tickets sold for the SCG,and making dire predictions.

There will be 70,000+ there next week which is a sh*tload more than what we will see at boutique venues such as Suncorp or the SFS.

So, if Western Deck is closed and it holds 12,500 (out of a possible 83,500), that limits the potential maximum capacity down to 71,000.

why close the deck when its still over a week of sales and promotion to go,and sides have just been announced ...today...sounds like a load of bollocks to me.
