No doubt that the busted arses that are currently wearing Cardinal and Myrtle shame our supporters. We deserve the slings being thrown our way, no doubt about it.
That said, seems to me that the majority of the fire is coming from the Most Successful Club in Rugby League, the Wests Tigers.
Why else would their supporters be coming at us from all angles?
What has this success been built on?
Lets have a look:
1. We have been panned on how crap we have been over our entire history versus their club:
Western Suburbs Magpies (1908-1999)
* 4 premierships (last one 56 years ago in 1952)
*17 Spoons
* Vs Souths 71wins 106 losses
Balmain Tigers (1908-1999)
* 11 premierships (last one 30 years ago, 1 comp in 51 years)
*4 Spoons
* Vs Souths 80wins 95 losses
No wonder they merged these two together.
Supporters where born and died, and never saw a premiership.
Souths have more comps than them combined, and better win/loss records against them both.
No wonder they dont want to talk about this period.
That is history you say. Fine, lets look at the modern merged version:
2. The Wests Tigers (2000-2008)
* 1 finals appearance for 1 premiership (The Bradbury)
* Vs Souths 6wins 5 losses
On top of that:
* Playing out of 5 home grounds
* On the verge of losing their Leagues Club in Rozelle
* Where is the $8m they where given due to the merger?
* The Fat Leso
So, the Tigers have won 1 more game against us, played in the same number of finals series (1), but they went on to win theirs in 2005 after everyone else slipped over.
The proof is in the pudding when they couldnt make the finals in 2006 and 2007.
So despite all of our woes, I hope we arent looking towards this busted arse club for ideas.
Guys like Noyce are the reason why Clubs have been in the sewer, which is an apt description if you have ever been to Leichhardt or Campbelltown Oval.
