Clubs toss players aside when they don't want them.

The issue of loyalty in rugby league is a hypocritical joke.

I would take it, 150k and 55k is a massive difference over 3 years. You can't blame him.

I have a feeling he will come back though.

I dont blame the kid for leaving.

None of us live in the Williams household, perhaps it was a decision that he needed to make to support his family.

U r gonna hold that against him???

Wake up people...

Yeah, I don't think we can be overly harsh on Williams here. Did the Eels try to at least give him something that would make staying a reasonable option? Even, say, $50K less than Manly with some clauses for upgrades if he reaches the potential many people believe he has might have given him enough reason to stay. Seems to me, though, that the Eels administrators just threw up their hands and said "such is life". All I ask is that they fight for players a bit more.

a little birdie told me this morning that an approach was made to him on Monday as to whether he's consider coming back back if up'd the offer...and his answer was apparently, you're 2 weeks to late.

obviously his good performance in his NRL debut had the opposite effect on him as we had hoped. Instead of being rapt that the Eels showed faith and gave him a game in the top grade, he's gotten cocky at all the positive press and knows his stocks have risen so he's telling us where to stick it. Great bloke.

Mateo didn't.

No, but his offer wasn't that much different to what Manly are alleged to have offered. He had also been assured if a place in first grade by that stage too.

El Diablo said:
Well they asked him to tae into account all that had been done for him in the past. obviously he showed no gratitude

Gratitude doesn't pay the bills.

If the club have offered him an upgraded offer at the last minute why not make the same offer two weeks previous? The money was obviously there, otherwise it wouldn't have been offered.

I've recently had to deal with a manager leaving where I work - he was given an upgraded offer from our corporate office the day he came in to hand in his resignation. It was substantial but he asked me why was he now worth $5000 a year more because he had handed in his resignation. His main response was that he felt insulted to be given a new offer only because he was leaving.

I'm sure Tony may have felt the same way.

Technically it's not too late because he has not signed anything yet.

In todays RLW there is a story that the Eels are prepared to offload Grothe to the UK or a rival NRL club.

Do we still have no F*cking money ?
