Tuning into ABC Grandstand

Living in Melbourne at the moment and I'm sick of only having the option to listen to ABC Grandstand calling the AFL. I used to love listening to the game leadup on a Sunday arvo with the Wok. A few interviews, a bit of trivia, some misinformed callers. Top stuff.

So - Does anyone know ways to be able to listen ABC Grandstand Sydney coverage from Melbourne?
They dont have internet rights so 2GB are the only ones who can stream coverage of the League.
Short of putting a 50 foot satelite dish on my roof, I'm guessing I'll have to stick to watching Under 20s on FoxSports. Any advice to the contrary would be appreciated.

ABC does have the streaming rights and broadcasts nearly every match via the internet. Sadly if you're after Rugby League on Saturday afternoon the ABC doesn't begin its Rugby League coverage until 5pm. ABC radio is run from Melbourne so you guessed it AFL is broadcast the length and breadth of Australia on Saturday arvo.

Unfortunately last week it was 5.30pm so no pre-game league talk which I look forward to. They just change the rules to suit the AFL whenever they see fit.

Hmm, Nice one. Might have to re-visit the ABC website on a Sunday arvo. As for Saturdays, I'm happy to stick to FoxSports.
Sundays in Melbourne are a bit of a dry-spell. The Sunday Nine game doesnt come on until the wee hours of Monday morning and after 3 games on a Saturday night I'm generally sick of the Fox Sports team of experts.

As for the NRL site, unless the simulcast ABC I'm not really interested- I can generally get hold of some form of coverage - I'm just a big fan of ABC Grandstand League coverage.

Thanks for the info folks!

Do they still have the quizz after 5 on a sunday? That was rivetting stuff.

Not anymore. It was interesting. Recall some guy who pissed off his nut called in 2 yrs back and when given some hard question replied "ohhh thats f**king bullshyte"
Morrow was speechless.

I've never found the link and always enjoyed the ABC's coverage when I lived in QLD

If you have any success post it here please. :D

I too spent a long time trying to find a link to a streamed version of Grandstand, but never had any success. We get the radio commentaries, but i wanted all the talk and buildup before hand. Is a pity that the garbage that 2GB put out is easily accessable on the net but the quality of Grandstand can't be found

Having grown up in the NSW bush, spent time in Sydney, but now living in NZ, I get ABC Grandstand Leeeague on Sundie arvos on Radio Sport (AM). Nearly makes me cry when I listen to it. Its brilliant. Even listened to it once on short wave, standing on a wall (for reception) in a mountain village in Pakistan, near afganistan border. 1993 semi Broncos v bulldogs, and virtually same commentators then as today. Should be listed as a sacred site and given heritage protection.
