Imagine him getting off the plane and seeing a bunch of rugby league supporters standing there booing him. There's got to be a few league fans touring france surely. Cycling fans perhaps... since Cadel's out of the equation they may be persuaded to vent their disappointment personally in front of Sonny Bill. Nice thought at least.

Can transfer fees's be made between sports though. we and rugby union would just about be the only sports that players could transfer from code to code.

If its possible it's time the NRL/International board put in place a transfer system ala Soccer etc.

Make the contracts state: if you wish to breach your contract and join rugby union, english super league or another nrl club withing your contract, the club which you are signing with must pay an x amount of dollars to your current club.

Why allow them to do it in the first place? If they sign a contract and don't want to honour it then punish the player, not the other club.

Clubs won't want to agree to it because they want to offload players under contract just as much as players want to get out themselves.

I would be extremely surprised if the NRL and the Dogs took any legal action beyond seeking compensation for SBW's breach of contract. Seeking an injunction would simply not be in their interests - whilst it has been some time since I practiced contracts law, it would be an extremely tricky matter to stop SBW playing Union. Moreover, even if the NRL was successful, the sheer cost of the legal battle would render such an action highly imprudent. Not only would the NRL find itself dragged into a protracted legal challenge that could drag on for months, it would protract the media attention surrounding SBW and give him more opportunities to badmouth his former club and code.

Posters here seem to be obsessed with the idea of making SBW pay for what he's done to our game, but really, making someone pay isn't good business sense unless they're paying something to you.
