We don't want Sonny back: Dogs

September 24, 2008

BULLDOGS chief executive Todd Greenberg has shut the door on a return to the NRL club by runaway forward Sonny Bill Williams.

Williams is reportedly homesick at French rugby union outfit Toulon and upset at his treatment by millionaire club president Mourad Boudjellal.

"We've heard those rumours as well and it's not surprising at all for us that he's homesick," Greenberg told Sydney radio station 2KY.

"Sometimes he got homesick when he was living back here in Sydney."

Greenberg said speculation the Bulldogs could be interested in bringing Williams back to the club was wide of the mark.

"If you're asking me if we want him back, the answer's no," he said.

"We've had no contact from Sonny Bill or his manager.

"We've moved on and our suggestion is he do exactly the same.

"In my view this chapter's over, it's complete. Sonny made his choices some months ago, the reality of that is now he has to live with those choices."

Williams has been nursing a leg injury and his time on the sidelines has reportedly angered Boudjellal.

"I think there's some reality checks in that, it's welcome to the real world," Greenberg said.

"People expect a return on their investment and millionaires don't become millionaires by making stupid decisions. Millionaires like this guy in France don't give away money without expecting a return on the outlay.

"Some are more bullish than others and I'm sure this gentleman, by the sound of things, sounds a little bullish but my advice to Sonny would be put your head down and do your best. I'm sure he'll be a great rugby union player."

The former Kiwi international second-rower paid $750,000 compensation to the Bulldogs after walking out midway through the first year of a five-year deal in July, but the NRL has black-banned him.

You would think that if he was not in breach of a rugby contract Gallop would welcome him back.He may get a contract from one of the clubs. But most clubs will not even want to talk to him.You can't buy loyalty.
It is funny that most of us thought that this might happen when he left. What goes around.....

I doubt he would return to league. After all he wants to be an all black and you have to play super 14 first to my knowledge.

He'll be back, Warriors ??

If you read the article Oz, conditions of his release state that he cannot play for any other NRL club besides the dogs before 2013.

So unless hes prepared to wait til then, if he wants to play in the NRL before then, he has to play for the Dogs. No other club can sign him to play and he cannot have a contract registered with the NRL if it is not with the Dogs.

.

Both of those sentences are pretty f**king funny tbh

In all seriousness, there in not an NRL club that wouldn't be stronger for the addition of SBW, so if they get the chance and it's doable, they'd be stupid not to.

Loyalty is BS in professional sport, tbh

He'll be in breach if he does sign, and it would be up to the Bulldogs to allow him to play for any other NRL club before 2013. That is in the conditions of his release and its legally binding.

And put it simply, I don't see Greenberg letting him off to return and play for any other club. SBW made his bed, he has to lie in... Greenberg and the Dogs gain nothing by letting him return and play against them.

Haha. I hope no one feels sorry for this guy. What did he honestly expect? And if the Dogs take him back they'll be the laughing stock of the NRL. They need to stand firm on this and not allow him to play.

I agree with you mate.

I'm one of the only dogs fans who would love to have him back. If every NRL club had a chance to sign him, they'd all take the chance to get him.

Wouldn't blame Dogs if they took him back. Look at the team they'd have.

Hope they don't though. Pr*ck deserves everything he gets.

This is probably the funniest story of all time.

Honestly, Just for my viewing sake, id like the bloke to come back because I just enjoy watching him play. I bet Steve Folkes is laughing his arse off.

Honestly re teh dogs, can they take this bloke back? I mean he left them in the middle of the night, no word, with a big f**k you interview to boot. He left them to last place, no way that would have happened if it wasnt for what he did. I cant see them taking him back.

Crystal Ball: Money bill will chose one of these 6 options: St Helens, Bradford, Leeds, Wigan, Auckland Blues, NSW Waratahs.

Good on Canterbury. Yes, any club would love his talent, if not his injuries. But the code has a way of weeding out talented f*ckwits, aka Mark Geyer, Jacin Sinclair, Todd Carney et al.

SBW is a twit... he deserves every bit of bad luck that comes his way.
Also they claim he is home sick as in NZ?
i find that a bit odd considering he lived in Aus from 16 or so and all his family is here too

I like how this article says that SBW is upset over the treatment by the Toulon owner.
I wonder if he will have the "balls" this time and walk out on a contract.

Isnt that why he walked out on the Dogs, because all players are treated like cattle.
He was upset with how he was being treated??
Seems the same is happening in France and he doesnt have the "balls" to walk out on them which explains the only reason he went over there in the first place...Cash...hypocrite

Not enough toilet entertainment for him over there. I'm surprised Gower has lasted as long as he has too. Pair of Bogans in Gay Paree! Who woulda thunk it?
