There's plenty of potential revenue up for grabs in the NRL - its just that Gallop is completely and utterly useless as an administrator. That said, the Sharks would appear to be on pretty shaky ground at the moment, moreso than any other clubs.

Get rid of small suburban stadia, especially in Sydney. I'm not suggesting playing games at ANZ - that place is deviod of atmosphere - but one specifically designed for rugby league. The best thing you could do for sydney teams would be 2 or 3 Suncorp Stadia.
On top of that, you either need to make the game LESS appealing on tv, or MORE appealing at the grounds. Maybe free headphones for members, like on aeroplanes, that let you listen to the commentary as well?
Just need some good ideas and some good people. Right now we have bugger all of either.
Why the hell are people still trying to compare the NRL to the EPL?
So what if Souths are surviving on emotion? Do you want to cull them because they aren't performing? .
Meh. I don't think centralised big stadiums would be a good thing. Personally I enjoy places like Penrith, Shark Park. Sure get corproate facilities and toilets up to scratch, but other than that, no issue. The kids love the hill, the atmosphere kills anything you'll ever get at ANZ, and the food usually sh*ts all over the bigger grounds in both price and quality. Decently priced kebabs and bacon and egg rolls, nothing beats it.
What clubs should be doing imo is trying to maximise revenue of their surburban grounds. Rather than paying for canteens and food outlets (If this is the case, i'm not sure), provide their own, or get someone else to pay to sell their food there, surely there's a profit to be made here for both club and food retailers. Imo if the NRL was competently run they would start trying to buy stadiums from councils, and leasing them out for other uses. It's pathetic that playing at a place like Leichardt actually has Tigers running at a loss.
Wow, Tigers and Titans yet to get a vote.
Considering that most people would agree with you on that point, it's a bit strange that many people here are predicting that Souths will be one of the first to go broke, even though they have the largest membership base and corporate sponsorship deals out of all the Sydney clubs... go figure. It will become all about club supporters(membership) and major sponsors.
You will have much opposition from the investors of NRL clubs who may lose on their big investment if their team goes down and provides little return. With an issue like Sydney, though, you have several top-tier clubs who may support it because relegation is a much better fate (financially and otherwise) than simply being booted from the comp.Without wanting to change the subject....IMO why don't we look at divisions and promotion/relegation !
Why not?
Without stating the obvious, the 'richer' clubs would survive.
But it doesn't mean the end of clubs that don't make first division !!
It will become all about club supporters(membership) and major sponsors.
All of the QRL and NSWRL (Jim Beam AliveCups....whatever...Redcliffe, Rockhampton, Wentworthville, Cabramatta...etc. etc.)
Forget any affiliations....
It will become all about sponsorship and supporters!
I can see the Broncos crashing and burning on 8 straight years of poor performance.
I think the Sharks are going to keep running into financial difficulties; nothing will change after 42 years of mismanagement and constant bail outs.
St George Illawarra is under financial pressure after the St George Leagues Club lost $1.6 million last year, but executives still believe they can come up with enough money to attract Bennett to the joint-venture club.
Any sharks or stain fan who wants the other dead is an idiot. Why would you wish death on your closest rivalry?
