Personally, I don't understand why we have a thread dedicated to an ex-Souths player, who didn't exactly have a stellar career with us. We didn't have a "Peter Cusack - watch" thread and he certainly made a far greater contribution to Souths than Hegs ever did.

We have a number of excellent players in our side now that you could have threads dedicated to, yet we have one dedicated to an ex-player who was ordinary at best. It doesn't make any sense to most Souths fans in here and gives fans from other clubs more reason to ridicule us and quite frankly, we're sick of being riduculed.

We finally have a side that we can be proud of and who will be very competetive in 2009, so lets not insult them any more by continuing to glorify Hegs and get behind our current team for the 2009 season. Time to move on.

Hegs has as much right to be honoured and spoken highly of than any other player in the NRL. Its a tough game, all of the players deserves a wrap of some sort.

And as a fully paid-up ticketed member of Souths, any suggestion that I am not 100% behind this 2009 team leaves me astounded as there is no greater indice of love, respect and support for all of the boys, the staff and the club generally.

Further, AM is a one of the most prominent Souths-loving fans on this forum as has been for ages. The fact that he has a beat in his heart for the integrity of Hegs, does not diminish his support of this club one iota.

He hasnt abandoned us and joined the Cowboys for example.

Hegs will slot in at five-eigth which will really help Thurston and give Hegs an opportunity to shine in his preferred position which he will of course.

The Cowboys need someone who can make the five-eigth position their own and I feel that Hegs is the man to do so.

If Hegs can work on his kicking game then i'm picking the Cowboys for the premiership.

Hegs is a great player who we must pay tribute to.

He's been harshly treated imo.

Hegs did a fine job for us playing out of position on the wing.

Hegs was and still is a great player when played in his preferred position.

This thread is a tribute to the outstanding contribution Hegs made to South Sydney from 2005-2008 and as far as I'm concerned we're really giving him the great send-off that this great man in Shannon Hegarty deserves.

Just go to some local shop and buy some season review DVDs between 1999-2008 and you'll see Hegs at his brilliant best.

It seems that you can’t read very well Dave , so try reading the second sentence again. In other words, this is not a private thread, so if you, AM or anyone else wishes to continue the Hegs wankfest in here, then be prepared to face criticism from people who may not agree with your opinions. That is what forums are for.

Once again, my post was directed to all Souths contributors in this thread and I was expressing my opinion (as I am entitled). It was not directed specifically at yourself or AM, nor was it in any way rude or insulting, unlike your response to it, in which you directly attacked me and made a sick comparison between myself and Adolf Hitler. It is quite rude, audacious and insulting to suggest that either me or AM shoud only praise Hegs by way of PM. That is tauntamount to sugesting that we should not speak our minds on this forum, that is, provided we are in the rules an unacceptable suggestion of censure.

1. My post (above) did not quote anyone else's, nor was it in response to any particular person's comments. It was general in nature and did not name or ridicule you, AM or anyone else.
2. I did not ridicule Hegs. I expressed my opinion that he didn't have a stellar career with us, didn't make as great a contribution as Peter Cusak and was ordinary at best. Surely, if these comments were unjustified, Hegs would still be at Souths now.
3. It did not contain any insults, name-calling or derogatory remarks about anyone.
4. I did not suggest that you or AM should only praise Hegs by way of PM. Following your attack, I did suggest that if you wanted to praise Hegs without risking criticism, then PM would achieve this, as clearly other people can't criticise what they can't read.
5. I did not suggest that there should be any form of censure or that people shouldn't speak their minds. Following your attack, I did however, question AM's repetetive posts, citing a LU rule about 'message bombing' and asked you to correct me if I was wrong.
6. My above post was not an unjustified attack on either this thread, you or AM. I was questioning the value of the thread in the context of South's current season and the likelyhood of the thread making us (Souths supporters) more of a target for ridicule by fans from other clubs.
7. As you can see, my above post WAS directed at the topic and not the man (ie you or AM).... that was until you responded to it with your personal attack.

Having said all that, I wish Hegs well in his career at the Cowboys and hope he achieves far more
success with them than he did with Souths.... only I hope he plays like sh*t when we play them.
