Is someone else taking care of the eels website now? because we used to get the team sheet always on time :(

Yes.

I have heard the goal is to send the members the information first in email then put it on the website a little later. You know, benefits of STH / Membership.

Teamsheet: Round 1 vs Warriors

by Phil Sim
Kris Keating has beaten out newcomer Kevin Kingston as the Eel's replacement hooker for their Round 1 clash against the Warriors, while Joel Reddy has been selected on the wing over Taulima Tautai, who has been named on an extended bench. Meanwhile, Todd Lowrie has been given the nod on the Eel's bench in front of Joe Galuvao.

Kris Keating's selection in the 14 jersey is the main difference to the team that 1Eyed named as the likely Round 1 side last week. Keating may not provide as much dash out of dummy half as Kingston, but he does have a better kicking game and he supports the ball well, which will be a key ingredient to the 2009 side's gameplan.

As tipped by 1Eyed, Reddy won the winger's spot over last year's Eels Rookie of the Year, Taulima Tautai. Reddy was consistently good for Parramatta last year, is a clinical finisher, great under the high ball and I think he'll excel if given the chance to become a specialist winger this year.

As already reported in paper's yesterday, Eric Grothe will fill the opposite wing position.

Parramatta also chose to announce yesterday that Tim Mannah would make his debut and he'll come off the bench with Fuifui Moimoi. Josh Cordoba has been selected as the starting prop alongside captain Nathan Hindmarsh.

Perhaps the most contested position in the Parramatta lineup is the bench second-rower position, which has gone to Todd Lowrie. However, Joe Galuvao has been named on the extended bench.

All in all, I agree with every selection Anderson has made, although I would liked to have seen Fuifui start as I've felt the Cordoba/Cayless combination has not provided a lot of go-forward in the past. I like the fact that he has stuck with young Kris Keating, who really didn't deserve to lose his spot after some great performances last year and I think he'll complement Jarryd Hayne playing in six. Tim Mannah deserved his spot after some stand-out trial performances and I think he'll fairly quickly consolidate his role in the top seventeen. I don't mind the selection of Lowrie as I think he's defensively excellent and he complements the hard-running games of Moimoi and Mannah.

What a wank. They can't even do that on time.
Meanwhile, just about every other team is publically available.

 Lowrie holds his place in the top 17 - msutn't be too bad in DA's eyes after all.

Fair enough naming Joe G and TT on the extended bench as a reward, to indicate they're next in line.

Did we actually win a game last year when Lowrie played?? I give us no chance if he lines up.

If we had the benches we had last year, which offered little impact outside of the hooker, I would agree. The fact that Mannah and Moimoi are on the bench gives me a little more confidence. I'd still rather Galuvao but I think overall Lowrie would offer a bit more of the bench in terms of defense and utility value.

Be interesting to see what moves are made in terms of the backline, hooker and the halves when changes are made.

Not sure what Lowrie is doing there??? Not sure if he gives us any sort of impact off the bench. Would have preferred someone like Latimore.

I actually thought and had hoped lowries days were numbered at parra without hages there..Maybe its a smokescreen by naming Joe G on extendedbench.

He doesn't need to make an impact from the bench as I've mentioned above. That is already there and is a better balance than almost every bench that was named last year.

I think we'll need Lowrie's defence at times, which I rate better than Weller's or Joe's at the moment.

Be interesting to see what moves are made in terms of the backline, hooker and the halves when changes are made.

Matt Keating can go 80 mins, and I'm not sure I've seen Kris ever play dummy half... depends how they've been training, but perhaps Finchy has been having a go at dummy half and will swicth to hooker when Kris comes on in the halves, giving Matt a breather.

There was one team in England that tried a five playmaker strategy - 1, 6, 7, 9, 13 all with the ability to create. It gets a bit confusing, but the benefit is it's a lot less predicatble for the opposition to know who's directing the next play.

If DA observed this and brought it back with him, then at some point in the game we could have:
1. Burt/Hayne
6. Hayne/Mateo
7. Finch/KK
13. Mateo/KK
9. MK/Finch
...all with varying strategic attacking roles to play.

Joe & TT on an extended bench because of concerns with Mateo & Reddy??
Does anyone know how Mateo's knee is?
Of course, he is an important part for the eels but I need to know for my fantasy teams HA HA HA
