what else is he gonna say to a parra fan?
he hopes parra are the biggest bidder? ;-)
too funny

Im with stagger, offer them what they are worth, with incentives to play first grade. Give them a reasonable time frame to sign a contract, if they dont, its bye byes.

Pretty sure Fitzy said some time ago that new club policy was no incentive contracts anymore as they make it too difficult to manage the cap.

We dont need Kelly,we have Mortimer and KK as the young guys for the future.
Imagine if they both became the next sterlo and kenny.

in terms of natural talent, Kelly has them both covered...believe me.
Talent can take you a long way, but then there is attitude. From what i have seen of both KK and Mortimer they have great attitudes and both play above their weight. If only more blokes at our club had the same attitude.

I have known albert for 3-4 years now and he doesn't strike me as the most loyal kid.

I was having a conversation with him 2 years ago and we were talking about his contract situation with parra. At the time he was still contracted for another couple of years and then his exact words were "then it's time for albey to get paid". I then asked if this would be with parra and he said "nah whoever pays me the most".

Albert was placed with a family when moving from kempsey and he was enrolled at Patrician Brothers Blacktown. His attendance was quite poor and despite this Parra continued to let him play. He even left the family who were putting him up and went to stay in "the block" in redfern and Kevin Wise would go and pick him up for school, get him to Parra training and then drop him off back in redfern. This kid is a prime example of what is wrong with this club and why there was friction between Hindmarsh and the younger brigade last year. Our gun juniors are allowed to strut around like superstars and are paid as such and as a result our salary cap management is the worst in the NRL.

People like Kevin Wise and Ben Rogers are too focused on winning junior rep titles rather than developing first graders. Quite often our Junior Rep squads are talked up as if they will produce many future first graders only to produce nothing. I believe the reason for this is because these squads have 2-3 standouts that carry the rest of the squad to good results and as a result the club loses focus on developing all the players in all their squads. Anyone who has seen this years Harold Matt's would know that Jacob Gagan is miles ahead of everyone else and without him, we are left with a side that would finish 4th-6th and yet some of these guys will still be signed to contracts well beyond their abilities.

Now we are being told a good portion of the money that Finch was on is going to be used to re-sign 2 teenagers who can be easily replaced. This is the same thing we have done for a few seasons now and the results show. We were one game away from the grand final in 2007 and we then let Timana Tahu and P.J Marsh go without bringing in replacements.

Look at what the bulldogs have done in 1 off season. They let go of a bunch of players with crap attitudes, kept some very good juniors and went and signed the likes of Kimmorley, Hannant, Ennis, Morris, Stagg, Eastwood etc.

Excellent post.

Agree with ya,by the sounds of it Kelly thinks he is as good as inglis. yet he is even further away than what you guys think mortimer is.

Yeah, not sure what all the hype is over kelly, have not seen him do anything outstanding, and from what i have seen him do i would much rather prefer to keep mortimer and keating. Just my view

Agreed. Journo`s make things up - like: "freakishly talented". Well, he might end up being a sensation; but he might not. It would be really great to have an aboriginal superstar five-eight at Parramatta (the place where the eels lie down), I would love to see that. But, unfortunately, we have thrown so much money at juniors over the last ten years, we simply can`t afford to keep doing it.

Can anyone list out the juniors that we have let go. i.e. juniors were not steady 1st graders before leaving and how they are going? And recently.

Done Good
=======
David Williams
Zeb Taia
Willie Tonga (debatable)

Not Setting the World on Fire
===================
Tony Williams
John Williams
Brett Andersen
James Maloney
Trent Hodgkinson
Jack Afamasaga
Blake Green
John Mannah
Blake Green

Actually, Zeb Taia is very good. Tony Williams - done nothing.
And Blake Green - done absolutely nothing - twice, it seems!

Ok, im fairly scared by this, but, my gut feeling is that Brod is as good as gone. And if that is the case then bye, bye Parra Fans. Who has the number to the Cronulla Supporters group (which keeps coming up as Masons when I type in the abbr) or whatever they are called???

I hope DA doesn't fall for the ransom note from players managers, we need to start standing our ground from these parasites.
Amen. We have to call the bluff when news of a re-signing player's potential other clubs first gets in the press.

We might lose a couple of them if we negotiate down from their initial asking price, but that's the only way we can find out whether these stories are put there by managers as an easy way of bumping up their commission without doing any work, or whether other clubs always have these high amounts of cash at the ready that are bandied about.

Nothing wrong with the old way of doing things, where a player sat down with the club and says "I want to re-sign, here's what I'm on now, what's the best you can do for me". Then a player who actually wants to play his club will say "that's cool" and sign, or say "I think I'm worth more, give me a chance to show you on the field this month and we'll talk again" or "sorry, I'll need to look elsewhere".

But now it's a case of "sorry, but my manager needs some money, so expect to see some stroies about other clubs in the media, while we try and fleece more money out of you".

But how the hell would you know that? What`s wrong with living at 'the Block', anyway?

You're missing the point. Nobody said there is anything wrong with living in "the Block" however a family was nice enough to put the boy up in their home and disrupt their lives and he up and left because he couldn't wake himself up for school and had a dummy spit because he missed the bus.

Many, many people have helped this kid out and I wonder how many of them would have received a sincere thanks for going out of their way for him. Pretty soon this kid will be in a position to be earning a 6 figure living from playing footy and he probably doesn't give those that have helped him a second thought.

If anyone thinks that Mortimer is more talented than Kelly, IMO they are sadly mistaken. I think he is a player that should be kept. I'm not saying that Mortimer won't make it, i just don't think he is as good as Kelly right now despite having played more games in a higher grade (NYC) than Kelly.

My opinion is that the future halves for Parra should be Kelly @ 6 and Kris Keating @ 7. Or Buy in a half back from elsewhere.

Robson is not up to first grade standard again IMO.

Brod should have been a priority. It seems obvious that there is a problem between himslef and Anderson (based on what i have read here on LU). He should have been on the bench at the very least in each game so far. How Lowrie and Hauraki (who i was a fan of, but am very dissapointed that he hasn't improved at all) keep getting in the team is beyond me.
