Wendell Sailor rates Jamal Idris better than Israel Folau

f**k me, give the kid a rest.

He's nowhere near Folau yet but he's a good young talent and with another season under his belt, sewing up the other centre spot next to Cooper isn't out of the question.

I rate him about as much as I rate Tony Williams tbh, looks very good outwide when close to the line because he is big and strong but don't expect him to make a long break because he is by no means fast. By next year he will probably be pushed into the forwards where he will get man handled if he does not strengthen up.

I see him very much in the SBW mould but much slower, correct me if im wrong but ATM he is nowhere near Falou and I could probably pick 5-6 players who I would have in origin well before him. Salior much lover reading his name in the papers because he said some dumb sh*t.

Exactly. A kid who has played less then 20 first grade games shouldn't be compared to someone who has won a premiership and represented his state and country. Jamal doesn't need that sort of pressure put on him this early.

Don't get me wrong I rate him but to say he's better than Folau and should be named for NSW is bordering on ridiculous. Also love Brycey trying to justify folau for origin because of NYC form. Maybe QLD should pick Ben Barba

I don't disagree with any of that.

Those calling him slow should probably look back to last year when he chased down the canberra winger from the other side of the field. Jamal will transition from a kid. With a javelin throwers body to a man with a rugby league players body. He will lose fat. Put on musclem be faster, stronger, quicker in a year or 2.

Only thing that I agree with in regards to what wendall has said is the calibre of players folau was playing with. Could you imagine idris outside sonny bil?.

I can't agree. No doubt Idris is a talent but I think people are forgetting that Folau is only a year older and has already won a premiership, has played at the highest possible level in both the juniors and seniors, well before his time.

Idris is not at Izzys level yet, he still has a long way to go. The talent is there and lets hope he fulfills that at the dogs

Two freakish players with mountains of talent, and even more potential to improve over the years.

Why do we always have to put one player over another? To my way of thinking, i'd prefer to focus on the bigger picture. What about all of those newspaper articles lamenting the death of rugby league as we know it, with Gasnier, Cross (lol), Tahu and $BW giong to union, while Berrigan, Menzies, Buderus and many more went across to England/Wales/France?

Not a peep out of them now. The origin teams this year could include the likes of Folau, Mullen, Wallace, Jennings, Lawrence... and Idris might not be too far off either. Young talent in abundance in our game, yet again. :D

i will say this though ive watched rugby league for a while now and people always throw up that old chestnut of this certain player or so "excites me when every he gets his hands on the football" only a couple of players i can ever really say have ever made genuinely excited when theyve gotten their hands on the football matt bowen and sbw (theres probably like 1 or 2 more but i cant think of them at the moment) but idris everytime he gets the ball doesnt matter where he is on the field 10m out or 90m out it still seems like he can break a game wide open. he is genuine superfreak and give him a good solid three years of fg and he will be in origin.
by the way i still think israel folaus only got one good move and thats the leap and grab afl style, while ill admit he scores plenty of good tries of passes from hsi inside men if you took his leaping away he would just be a good solid (and massive) outside back.

Idris doesnt have an awesome name.... so therefore he will never be considered as big a media darling as the Folaus, Karmichael Hunts and Sonny Bill Williams of this world.

You need to have a crazy awesome name to get noticed these days.
