Mateo here to stay says CEO

4/08/2009 10:37:00 AM
FELETI Mateo has denied talking to the Bulldogs about moving to Canterbury next season, according to Parramatta chief executive officer Paul Osborne.

``I spoke to him on Sunday at Cronulla and he said he was bemused by it,'' Osborne said of a newspaper report Mateo had held secret talks with the Bulldogs.

``I can only take him at his word.''

Mateo has been the forgotten man in Parramatta's run at the finals and return to glamour-team status.

The backrower cum five-eighth was seen as Parramatta's major strike player until he suffered a torn bicep.

Mateo is now due back in round 23.

Bulldogs CEO Todd Greenberg said he was unaware of meetings with Mateo, but he confirmed an interest in Krisnan Inu and injured halfback Kris Keating has also been linked to Bulldog approaches.

``I have spoken to Krisnan Inu and he and Mateo and Keating are contracted until the end of next season,'' Osborne said.

``I'll be working on keeping Jarryd Hayne and Daniel Mortimer.''

Osborne said contrary to reports, Parramatta would not have to shed any contracted players to accommodate 2010 signings Justin Poore, Shane Shackleton and Timana Tahu.

``It will be tight under the salary cap but we should just manage it,'' he said.

``We have players like Weller Hauraki and Brendan Oake off contract at the end of this season.

``Timana Tahu is coming back for very little money in his first season.

``He's just happy to be coming back; he will earn a lot more in his second and third seasons.''

Parramatta have been cleared of any salary cap breaches through president Roy Spagnolo's property dealings with several Eels players.

You'd think that the Dogs would be targeting players playing for teams in the top 8, rather than muppets in a team traveling in 11th spot.

Or maybe he doesn't know what he's talking about. If he said 'not contracted' then that's pretty specific. You can only release players if they agree to leave.

I don't mean to sound harsh but for one will not be sorry to see Hauraki or Oake go. More so Hauraki who while looks talented has the heart the size of a pea.
