Who is worthy of being on an independent commission?

When it comes time to install an independent commission we need people with vastly different skill sets to make this a properly functioning body.

This board needs a fresh feel to it, and as such, anybody who has sat on the NRL, QRL or NSWRL boards or been involved with a certain news gathering organisation will not be considered.

On a board of eight (excluding the new CEO), which people either in the game or on the periphery, have the credentials to drive the game forward into the future.

You would only want a couple of former players on the commission who have been out of the game for a considerable time and have done well in their post football career.

Who deserves to be considered for a place on the commission and why?

Don't put any ex-players on the board at all. What we need are smart businessmen and businesswomen to run it with an eye toward increasing revenue streams. If you put a bunch of boofhead ex-players on the board, you get the same sh*t we've got at the moment.

Let the players play the game, and let administrators run it.

The AFL is well run...whether by bullsh*t artists or not is irrelevant. Demetriou may be an utter merkin, but he has the media and the general population fooled into thinking everything is squeaky clean, and that's exactly what rugby league needs.

I am sick of seeing arseholes with short attention spans being catered to. Stuff them. The money wasted chasing the same renters who flocked to the Swans, then the Waratahs, then the A-League could be better spent doing the right thing. Supporting juniors and providing fans what they want. Forget about the rent-a-crowd - you'll be lucky to break even, and that's after you've bent over backwards to cater for them and annoy solid fans in the process.

The last thing league needs is blokes like Searle.

Since the 80s the AFL have boosted their crowd averages and membership from around where ours are now, to over 30,000. If this isn't a long term strategy, I don't know what it. I would take "AFL-style" admins over the current corrupt mugs any day.

That's a decent list of Sydneyites, but you wouldn't want accusations of Sydney-centrism.

You can't have people who have club affiliates running the game. Every 2nd fan goes on about Poitis being on the NRL board. The Titans conspiracy theorists would go nuts if Searle was appointed.
