2GB, TripleM and ABC renew Radio rights

The agreement should be reached on the proviso that there is somehow access to the second Friday game. When both states go with the same game live on Nine, 2GB is at the behest of the networks to broadcast it, as is ABC - and then we're left with NO live coverage anywhere in Australia of the second Friday fixture.
Would friday night games in which there is a match in sydney and a match in qld be broadcast both on ABC, ie sydney game to NSW and Qld game to Qld, with the option of streaming on the net

What a load of bullsh*t
 Because you and your don't listen, it doesn't have a large audience share?

This forum, unfortunately, is the noisy minority. There are countless thousands and thousands of people who don't mention they listen because it's not terribly important to them. The people who dislike it then speak out against it, on here.

I'm in the middle - I don't mind the show, but I can see that exclusivity in the market is a DUMB way to go. Hope it changes with new deals in 2013.

Oh Dear.

I'd be outraged by this decision if it wasn't so predictable. Once again the NRL is reducing the exposure Rugby League can get in order to gain a piddly amount of money.

Exclusive radio rights only hurts the game in the long run. It reduces Rugby League's impact on the culture of New South Wales and Queensland. The more you make the game part of the culture the greater the market. The less you make the game part of the culture the smaller the market.

It's an extremely short-sighted decision, but one I've sadly come to expect and live with.

So how much was it worth? Strange there was no mention of $ value of the deal. I am guessing it wasn't much or we would have heard about it?

Apart from Taxi drivers do people still listen to RL games on the radio?

No, Raaay Muppet, because they don’t have a Large Network audience. They may have a large audience on the AM Band in Sydney, with all those loyal Alan Jones listeners.

Does it now? This forum has a lot of people who live are outside the Sydney Metropolitan area.

This is a Rugby League forum and its open to opinions for people who follow Rugby League. I’m sure that a lot of the Alan Jones loyal audience would not know the Leagueunlmited exists

You love Raaay, but you don’t want to admit it. I’ve got no problem with you and the rest of the Raaay clones having his brand of humour to listen to, but like most other Rugby League fans here, I would like a choice. I wonder if 2GB gave them less this time?

Blind Freddy can see this is a dumb deal. If it was so good, they would have mentioned the $

The 7:30 Saturday night game is called on the ABC is it not? Thats where I always listen to it. Out of sufferance I might add because GB (the clearly superior broadcasting team) don't call it. Will the calls through nrl.com be live?

Although it's clearly a stopgap til the big 2013 date, a lot of you just think it's stupid because 2GB get games, even though quite a large amount of people enjoy it (myself included) and would rather not listening to the aural Stilnox that is Warren Ryan.

Open it up like the AFL, give the consumers a choice!

My exact thoughts on the matter.

Gallop and the NRL ought to be ashamed, especially when they were clearly made aware of the shortfalls of their last deal.

I wouldn't credit 2GB with 15 hours of RL coverage across a weekend. It's hardly 15 hours worth of RL content. Spin is everything.

Graeme Hughes (2SM) will be almight pissed off today. He dreams to call league games again, yet Gallop shuts him down every three years.

I don't think they even bothered this time around.

Nor did 2UE.

Why would you waste your time.

 Well done on completely ignoring my point solely for a rant against GB/Hadley.

I said quite clearly that I believe there should be a choice. In fact, Brutus quoted an earlier post of mine saying we should open it up like the AFL.

Unfortunately for you and your agenda, ratings figures don't lie. The network figures are quite strong across the board from the media I've seen.

If you can't accept that your opinion isn't fact and that everyone has different tastes that's your problem. Thinking you're the majority and everyone's with you is quite hilarious.

Unless of course you've got those network rating figures to prove it...

No I didn’t. You’re laughing at your self you dill

I agree with you as well you goose

Are you saying that 2GB’s audience which dominates the AM band from Monday to Friday, increases on a Saturday afternoon because Rugby League fans prefer Raaays Show? I know about 5 or 6 people who are not Rugby League fans who listen to Alan Jones and Raaay from Monday to Friday, listen to Raaay on Saturday afternoon. I am not sure, but I have heard that 2GB’s audience drops when they go to the Football on Saturday nights. Would that be Rugby League fans tuning out Timmy or 2GB’s Monday to Friday audience?
Of course 2GB is not networked to a lot of areas in NSW and QLD regional areas.
If you can't accept that your opinion isn't fact and that everyone has different tastes that's your problem.

I’ve got no problem if you love Raaay.

Where do you get that opinion from Timmy? You are the one who commented on what I posted. You seem to have a problem with my post. Has my criticism of Raaaay upset you? I’ve got no problem if you love Raaaay. Most of these debates on radio topics on this Rugby League website have very few people who support Raaay. I would say Raaay is about as popular on this website as his good friend Phil Rothfield. I would go out on limb and say that Phil Rothfield was about as much a silent majority fan base as Raaay

Unless of course you've got those network rating figures to prove it...
Again, I have no problem with anyone like you who wants to listen to Raaay. 2GB only make up part of the AM Band. FM is another story which the NRL have no weekend rights for. Just because 2GB dominate the AM Band, I don’t buy into that theory from the NRL that Rugby League fans naturally listen to Raaay, as I have explained above.
Talking of ratings it would be interesting to compare the ratings between 2UE (a station that once covered Rugby League before being excluded by the NRL & ARL) and 2GB on a Saturday Afternoon. Of course 2BL do AFL on a Saturday afternoon.

Actually Hughes said on air today that the NRL didn't even bring these contracts out to tender, they just resigned without considering any other offers.

I listen to league in the radio as much as I can.

Someone did tell me you can get the lowlife scum hypocrite Ray Hadley in Brisbane, but why on earth would I bother.

All I know is I can never find NRL on Fridays.

Can always get saturday and sunday, don't care for Monday night football.

So in conclusion these deals are NOT in the best interests on Rugby League.

Why does this not surprise me ??? Deadset this is most definately agenda driven ... Gallop cant be that stupid as to not realise that giving exclusive rights fullstop is dumb ,but especially to clowns like gb . ego trip Hadley turns people right off ,though he thinks he's funny ,witty and clever so thats all that matters i suppose .

The biggest problem is the lack of broadcast boxes at the grounds.
Most grounds can only accommodate 2 radio calls.
From what I am told the only interested parties were 2GB, the ABC and MMM. Everyone knew the rights were up for renewal at then end of this season.
4TO couldn't find any space at all when they came to Leichhardt Oval and other "outside" brodcasters have had to call from some strange positions.
