Melbourne Storm forward Dallas Johnson joins Catalans Dragons

November 12, 2009 Melbourne Storm's Australia Test lock Dallas Johnson has accepted an offer "too good to refuse", signing a three-year contract with Super League club Catalans Dragons.
The Storm reluctantly agreed to grant the two-time NRL premiership-winning forward an early release from his contract, which had been due to run until the end of the 2011 season.

"The Storm, as a club, has meant so much to me," said Johnson, 26, who played in the last four State of Origin series for Queensland.

"This was without doubt the toughest decision of my career.

"I made my debut in Storm colours, represented Queensland and Australia while playing for them, and have made some life-long friends.

"Storm members and supporters are the most devoted in rugby league and I want them to know that I am indebted for the support they have shown me throughout my career.

"But there are other areas of life I want to explore and living abroad and travelling is absolutely up there on the list.

"The opportunity to continue my rugby league career with the security of a long-term deal and in such a beautiful part of the world was one that I couldn't refuse."

Storm coach Craig Bellamy, who made his debut as coach on the same night Johnson played his first NRL game, described the hard-hitting lock as the toughest rugby league player he had seen.

"For a guy his size, to do what he does on the field, week after week, is simply incredible," said Bellamy.

"He's the toughest player I have ever seen.

"He's a popular guy amongst the players and he will be missed by all."

You'd assume that Lima and co will now be resigning with them. Huge blow IMO this bloke has been a legend for them.

Why would you bother with such a stupid, not-funny title?

Easily the most ineffectual attacking player I have ever seen rep for Australia.

That's the sort of comment I'd expect from someone who doesn't understand rugby league very well.

There is a reason every team Johnson plays in has been so successful, he is the workhorse that makes others around him look good. He is the guy that makes 40 tackles a game and effectively allows his 'flashier' team-mates to rest in defence and save themselves for attack. To be honest, he's as important as Greg Inglis to the Storm and this is a HUGE loss for them.

I remember Hodge's first few SOO games were a nightmare for him. He made a few critical errors and I think in game I in 2002, he suffered a pretty serious injury on the well-sanded Suncorp stadium turf.

Its a big loss. The Storm are going to have to find 40 solid hits a game to make up for the loss of Johnson. It won't be easy.

He's replaceable at a state level, but Melbourne a really going to miss him.

edit:
His is easier than He's though..

Good on him. Live in the beautiful south of France, anonymous profile, travel all around Europe while playing rugby league at a second rate level for double the money.

how hard is it to differentiate between he's and his? this bugs me so much!! like 50% of people on this website can't tell the difference between the 2!

anyways, welcome to the QLD #13, David Stagg.

There is a difference between not knowing the difference, and not doing it ;-)
Similar to your/you're.

But yeah, I would be happy with Stagg at 13 for QLD, or even Parker.

That's a masive signing for the Dragons. One of the, if not the top, locks in the NRL and only 26. But that's ok there'll be some youngster coming through to replace him!

I wouldn't be crying about spelling errors if I were you...
You can't grasp simple punctuation.
