For what it's worth, this was in yesterday's SMH....
No cheaters, just chokers

IT TURNS out there was nothing sinister about a final-round National Rugby League match in which betting was suspended - just a badly performing team.
The Victorian Commission for Gambling Regulation launched an investigation last month into a match between the Sydney Roosters and North Queensland Cowboys on September 6, after concerns were raised about gambling on the match.
Some bookmakers had the Roosters as favourites but suspended betting on several occasions after a plunge on the Cowboys to win by more than 13 points.
''Although the Roosters were at the bottom of the premiership table, TAB Sportsbet opened them as favourite, with the option of betting on the Cowboys to win by 13 points-plus, the best odds except for a draw,'' the commission's report said. ''The Roosters led 16-6 at half-time, but lost 16-32.''
After a four-week investigation, the commission said it was satisfied there was no evidence to support allegations of match-fixing in the NRL.
The NRL had fully and properly investigated the matter, the commission said, and ''recognised the importance of protecting the sport's integrity''.
''The VCGR is satisfied that the NRL continues to monitor and maintain the integrity of rugby league.''
NRL spokesman John Brady said the organisation supported the commission and the Victorian Government on the issues.
''We were more than happy to provide any information we could and are certainly pleased to see their assessment,'' he said.
