Pete

Take 2 min to email the club and let them know what you think.

Another one from Goodpart

I think that's perfect for the alternate. Mixes the V with the Steelers twin stripes!

Hi there

My name is Peter

Ive been a loyal dragons fan my whole life, have ties in the club and are a member of the leagues club #7777

I was looking forward to buying a jersey this year since I was hoping to have a great new design with Reebok

However to be honest I think the new home jersey looks quite ugly

I doubt I will now buy one

I have been made aware of some designs a fellow supporter came up with and it apparently only took him a few mins (attached)

I would consider other options if I was in your position because a lot of other supporters I have spoken too have come up with a similar response

I hope we have a great year and it would look a bit silly with the boys raising the premiership trophy in that ugly jersey

other than that;

go the dragons and I hope we have a more attractive design next season,

Pete

Pete,

Well said, but I won't com plain if they're wearing this years jumper holding up the trophy.

The Reebok designs are cheap and tacky. Hopefully next year they look at something with style as above. They look great.

my email with the images attached.

To My Beloved St George Illawarra Dragons,

I am sending this email in utter disgust at the new playing strips selected for season 2010. I have been a Dragons fan for as long as I can remember, as well as a current football club and leagues club member, and this is the first year I feel embarrassed when the mighty Red Vee runs out onto the field!

After the spectacular efforts by the players, coach and club last season I felt this year was going to be the year of the Dragons - each season topping the last and ensuring the might brand of St George Illawarra Dragons flourishes. But unfortunately after the reasonable work done by Adidas to make the mighty red vee appealing and revered we have taken a enormous step backwards with the arrival of Reebok.

I always like to try on and inspect any merchandise I buy as it’s a little tricky to confirm sizes and style etc so I normally check at a local sporting store, why you don’t have a store is beyond me but I won’t get into that.. Once tried on I put the item back on the rack and rush home to order it from the Dragons website as I support the club 100% with all my hard earned money. But unfortunately this time I won’t be parting with my "dough".. As much as it breaks my heart I will also be recommending to my family, friends, fellow dragons members and supporters not to buy the latest version of team wear as it stands at the present time.

After inspecting the Red Vee jersey at a local sports store I have made the following conclusions:
- The fabric used is unbelievable thin. I believe my two ply toilet paper is thicker.
- Why is the Reebok brand over the top of the mighty red vee? Nothing in rugby league is bigger than the red vee - especially not an apparel company.
- When holding both a small and a XL jersey next to each other the red vee is the same size? Rather than make the red vee to fit the jersey, Reebok have just tacked some white on the bottom of a small! I’m sorry but this is unacceptable.

The alternate jersey (that has been dubbed the Spiderman suit OR wolverines dinner) has no reference to St George or Illawarra - I understand the club wishes to move into the future and ensure the Dragons brand lives on but sacrificing your past is not always the best option.. If the sentimental garbage is not good enough let’s just say the jersey looks like it was created by a 6 year old...

I have been sent some mock strips created by a fellow Dragons supporter (attached) and they are fantastic.. and it only took him 10 minutes and a home laptop... makes me wonder what they are doing over at Reebok if with all their $$$ and designers!!!

Regards,

Doug2234

I like the second one as an away jersey. (white v on red)
The heritage one looks too much like Wigan's.

Superb creativity, Goodpart. I'd have the 1 and 3 designs on my back in a heartbeat. Maybe the Est. 1921 could be slightly altered to...

?
I'm that impressed by the designs and concerned with all the negative feedback from the latest designs and the related quality that I might flick an email to Dousty. 'Wouldn't hurt to add the address of this thread:sarcasm:

Until they lift their game i'll keep wearing my 'throwback' jersey to the odd games that I get to each season.

Good work on making those designs....don't like the one on this page though. It looks like a Roosters jersey

Here's another email for Dousty to chew over.

Dear Peter;

Belated New Year wishes to you and the front office staff at our great club.
I’m emailing you to express my concern regarding the 2010 jersey design (both home and away) and its overall quality. Since the release of the jersey designs and the ensuing release for general sale of this seasons jerseys I’ve generally heard only negative comments about both aspects.

I’m interested to know who designs our playing kit and who ‘signs off’ on them to go into mass production for the paying public – yes, those committed souls prepared to pay $155 to support the team in the most recent release.

This season’s away jersey is beyond belief, in my opinion. It’s not a football jersey; it’s a bad acid trip. I’ve seen some horror jerseys in the last 10 years that our club has released, and this one is right up there. We are footy fans, Peter. I’m sure when you ask any of us we’ll tell you we want a white jersey with a big red V and a red jersey to represent our merged identity – and while I’m presenting my wish list, how about we go back to the hooped red and white socks. Football is tribal, not a bad fashion statement.

Would it be worth considering allowing paid up members to vote on a coming season’s home and away jersey? This may take some forward planning, but don’t profitable businesses plan ahead 1,3,5,10 years in advance? In addition it may well increase our membership from the currently embarrassing 10,000 mark. It wouldn’t be hard for the design team to produce 3 (‘just plucking a number out of the air) jerseys for both the home and away games and then let the people who really matter vote on what is presented. At the end of the day it is we, the supporters of the club, who will be wearing the jerseys.

The club could break new ground and allow members to submit designs for a designated season, these designs could be cut down to 3 (again I’m just plucking) of both the home and away jerseys. Imagine that, supporters designing and voting on their teams playing attire. This would surely promote the club in a positive manner and I’m positive it would increase our membership numbers. More jerseys sold, more members, more capital inflow.

I’ve seen some wonderful jersey creations by our fans over recent years that present the jersey as traditional, fashionable and modern. We should tap this creative resource and do away with paying someone, most likely not a Dragon fan, to design our jersey. Something that the vast majority of us are proud of, willing to pay for and feel involved it.

This all may sound time consuming and hard work to initiate and undertake, but isn’t that what running a business is all about?
Until that time, I’ll continue to wear my ‘throwback’ jersey until something takes my fancy, something that touches on our history, our future and our hearts.

Regards;

I have already discussed at length the pathetic design and quality of the reebok jersey. I was hammered by certain rose coloured glasses know alls on this forum. These are the people who prevent quality and success by their continued acceptance of poor decisions at our great club. It's been going on for years and years. From recruitment, to merchandise. The designs showcased in this thread are miles in front of anything the club will consider. If we stop buying the crap we are being forced upon then perhaps something can change.

I really like those designs especially No1 however I must disagree with the comments about Adidas there jersey's are the worst ones we have eva had they were sh*t in every aspect especially in how the jerseys were cut. I must say though Reebok and Adidas training gear is awesome, bar the cost you can tell they have experience in that area, but when it come to jersey design they are rookies.

Saw the new home jersey at Rebel sport the other day, and I didn't even debate with myself to buy it or not, I put it straight back. I've read heaps of complaints on here, but wanted to see the jersey with my own eyes, and it was the quality that got me. They're terrible. They're thin as, and I wasn't a fan of the red on the Vee.

I love those mock ups though. Great work.

The CSSC do their own jesrseys up. Would it be worth doing that for ourselves as well as a means of protest for this season with one of those designs?

As has been outlined we are all willing to part with our $$$$ to support the club, but they need to understand that you can't dish up sh*t at caviar prices.

Just wondering why the jerseys for sale are not the same as what the players use? Anyone know why this is the case?

ideally we need a contact at reebok to start voicing opinions towards in addition to our dragons contacts..

anyone in the industry know someone in marketing / sponsorship at reebok?

maybe when they realise that their target market will not be buying their product, they may sit up and take notice..
