Here's another email for Dousty to chew over.
Dear Peter;
Belated New Year wishes to you and the front office staff at our great club.
Im emailing you to express my concern regarding the 2010 jersey design (both home and away) and its overall quality. Since the release of the jersey designs and the ensuing release for general sale of this seasons jerseys Ive generally heard only negative comments about both aspects.
Im interested to know who designs our playing kit and who signs off on them to go into mass production for the paying public yes, those committed souls prepared to pay $155 to support the team in the most recent release.
This seasons away jersey is beyond belief, in my opinion. Its not a football jersey; its a bad acid trip. Ive seen some horror jerseys in the last 10 years that our club has released, and this one is right up there. We are footy fans, Peter. Im sure when you ask any of us well tell you we want a white jersey with a big red V and a red jersey to represent our merged identity and while Im presenting my wish list, how about we go back to the hooped red and white socks. Football is tribal, not a bad fashion statement.
Would it be worth considering allowing paid up members to vote on a coming seasons home and away jersey? This may take some forward planning, but dont profitable businesses plan ahead 1,3,5,10 years in advance? In addition it may well increase our membership from the currently embarrassing 10,000 mark. It wouldnt be hard for the design team to produce 3 (just plucking a number out of the air) jerseys for both the home and away games and then let the people who really matter vote on what is presented. At the end of the day it is we, the supporters of the club, who will be wearing the jerseys.
The club could break new ground and allow members to submit designs for a designated season, these designs could be cut down to 3 (again Im just plucking) of both the home and away jerseys. Imagine that, supporters designing and voting on their teams playing attire. This would surely promote the club in a positive manner and Im positive it would increase our membership numbers. More jerseys sold, more members, more capital inflow.
Ive seen some wonderful jersey creations by our fans over recent years that present the jersey as traditional, fashionable and modern. We should tap this creative resource and do away with paying someone, most likely not a Dragon fan, to design our jersey. Something that the vast majority of us are proud of, willing to pay for and feel involved it.
This all may sound time consuming and hard work to initiate and undertake, but isnt that what running a business is all about?
Until that time, Ill continue to wear my throwback jersey until something takes my fancy, something that touches on our history, our future and our hearts.
Regards;
