Maybe it's all in the marketing? Or maybe its cos i had speights in bottle form and lion red off tap (and it was very flat off tap).

There's a similar rumour about VB and Crown Lager - Crownies are basically VB in an expensive bottle.

As for the bad beer list, the obvious ones are VB and New, Carlton Cold is absolutely aweful. VB gold is piss as well.

Actually Crown is Fosters re-bottled.

As for Lion Red, Speights and Tui they are just povo mass produced beers like VB etc.

Ive been getting into James Boags Pure recently.....No hang over.

Bad Beers (feel free to add):

Tooheys Red
Melbourne Bitter
Hahn Ice
VB

A had a beer called "Bondi Blonde" at work before Christmas - it was awful

Had a few Speights whilst in the UK - pretty good

Favourite beer at the moment is probably Little Creatures Pale Ale

Yeah it was Fosters not VB - the story always was that Crown was the beer from the top of the vat and Fosters the stuff lower down. Hence the name Crown.

However, as Fosters brew 800,000% more Crown than Fosters, I'm not sure how valid this theory is.

Crown and Fosters (the Aussie version) actually have a similar taste.

Fosters in the UK is tasteless beer much in the vein of Tooheys New, whereas the Fosters sold here is a more full bodied lager and I actually quite like it. Although I am probably in a minority of 1

In my defence, Fosters is nowhere near as bad as it's reputation deserves (probably because they changed the brew but no one cared any more) and all the people I have given a stubbie of Fosters to over the past 5 years have actually thought it was a lot lot better than they imagined it would be.

Any beer with the name "Blonde" other than the proper high alcohol content Belgium stuff is going to be awful. Low carb beers are the most tasteless, bland and flavourless godawful cups of piss that any marketer has foisted on the general public in the history of brewing.

They're on a par with Fosters Light Ice in their utter sh*teness.

Carb levels in beer are almost irrelevant. It's not carbs that make people fat, it's calories and Low Carb beer has as many calories as normal beer, so drinking it is utterly pointless.

If people are really that f**king worried about their weight they should exercise and stop pretending that drinking tasteless piss is going to save them from being fat f**ks. It's not.

One of the lowest calorie beers on the market is Coopers Pale Ale and it also has the pleasant side effect of being one of the best tasting beers in the World. f**king hooray. But try telling that to a brainless public who actually believe the sh*te marketers and rumour feed them.

I'd rather pull my eyeballs out of my head, blend them in a glass of elephant sperm and snort it off the anus of yak with diorreah than drink one of those low carb blonde beers.

Yeah - the Coopers is my cheaper alternative to Little Creatures.
I prefer the Sparkling but have learnt to limit the intake on that one.
Agree about the "low-carb" thing. Do people really think they will lose weight drinking low-carb beer and low-fat ice cream?

I have a slab of Coopers Clear...not bad.

To be honest, I havent tried that one.

But Hahn Super Dry, Pure Blonde, Bondi Blonde etc all taste god-awful

I would trust Coopers to make a better fist of a low carb beer than most o the others.

VB Raw is less offensive than the others mentioned above, but it's not exactly good. Just about suitable for a stinking hot day when you're outside and the beer is chilled to buggery. It's sort of like Tooheys Extra Dry.

But the point still stands that people, lets call them idiots, are drinking low carb beers thinking they're doing themselves some good and they're not. All they're doing is drinking beer that tastes like sugary water. I'd rather stay sober and for someone with my love of beer, that really IS saying something.

Agree...Pure Blonde is crap. I have tried them all and Coopers is the best.

Coopers Pale is my standard drink, usually have a case i slowly get through etc.

Jame Squire Golden Ale is absolutely supurb, but at 60 bucks + a case it isnt worth it all the time.

Maybe its because we dont get the genuine product but i find most european beers to bland with a shocking aftertase/hangover.
On the other hand i love a good Irish beer, Kilkenny on tap done properly is delicious. Guiness out of a can is still damn good but im desperate to try it in dublin

Am I the only one who hates James Squire?

But then again, I don't like pale ales.

Had a few James Squires on Friday evening - can't remember which one. Gold Ale? Went all right

Looking forward to watching some Friday night footy games at the James Squire bar in a few months time

James Squire sell

Amber Ale - Deep Crimson Ale with a nutty aftertaste
India Pale Ale
Pilsner
Golden Ale
Porter

Also at their restaurant you can also buy the Governor King Pale Ale, the Craic Irish Stout and Highwayman Red Ale.

So only two of their eight beers are "Pale Ales" - they also sell limited edition beers such as the wonderful "Sundowner" which is a lighter coloured lager styled beer. Great on a hot day.

So really, there should be a beer for most tastes. However, I have a good mate who like you doesnt like Squires. But then he likes Hahn Super Dry and Tooheys New, so I just put that down to him having no taste at all when it comes to beer. You're probably suffering from the same disease as him :p

Couldn't see the point in starting a new thread for this but I tried a beer last weekend called longboard. Have to admit, for a local company it really turns out a nice drop. Limited in availability at the moment but worth keeping an eye out for.

http://www.longboardbeer.com/

FYI: I have no affiliation with them, outside of a newly acquired love of their product. And they are nice guys too...
